1. Slander the guru. Different from other knowledge, practicing Tantric Buddhism requires the master's secrets to gain wisdom, understanding, and attainment.
Sutras also talk about relying on good teachers. Venerable Ananda once said to the Buddha, I realized that in the process of practice, most of the achievements depend on good teachers. However, the Buddha said that not most, but all achievements depend on good teachers. Without the guidance and guidance of good teachers, nothing can be accomplished. In Tantra, it is even more emphasized to rely on the guru. It is said in the Buddhist scriptures that all the thousand Buddhas of the sage kalpas became Buddhas through the secrets of the guru. Before there was a guru, there was no Buddha.
There are six types of gurus in Tantric Buddhism: one is the guru who leads you into Buddhism, which can also be said to be the guru who takes refuge; the second is the guru who leads you to repent of your karma; the third is the general guru who is associated with you. ; The fourth is the guru who teaches you the Tantric scriptures and tantras; the fifth is the guru who teaches you the secrets; the sixth is the guru who gives you the initiation. There should be no disrespectful behavior toward these masters, let alone slander.
There are also certain requirements for breaking this fundamental precept. The object of violating the fundamental precepts is a guru with three graces - a guru who gives you initiation, transmission, and tips. This is called a guru who possesses the three graces. The Three Grace Gurus can be several or one. To slander Master Sanen, from the perspective of worldly law, saying that the master has bad character, lack of knowledge, etc.; from the perspective of Buddhist law, saying that the master's precepts are not pure, has no wisdom, and has no meditation, etc., are all slander. . It's the same thing if you say it to your face or behind your back. In addition, disobeying the guru's teachings, having hatred towards the guru, and having wrong views are also violations of the fundamental precepts.
Buddhas are all one, and cultivating one Buddha is equivalent to cultivating all Buddhas; all gurus are one, and relying on one guru is equivalent to relying on all gurus. Relying on the guru half-heartedly is the biggest obstacle to spiritual practice. Every guru has skillful methods for saving sentient beings, and they are not exactly the same. Cultivating the deity and relying on the guru depends on fate, and cultivating the Dharma depends on the foundation. Take a look at your fate and foundation. When Shakyamuni Buddha taught the Dharma at that time, he taught the corresponding Dharma. Only the corresponding Dharma can save all sentient beings. No matter how extraordinary the Dharma is, it cannot liberate you if it does not correspond to your heart.
To practice Dharma, you need to choose a corresponding Dharma, and to rely on a guru, you need to choose a predestined guru. What you like may not necessarily be fate. Being destined means that he can give you a way to escape, and you can get close to him and communicate with him at any time. No matter how great your guru's merits and virtues are, if you can't get close to him and practice his thoughts and deeds, such reliance will be meaningless to you. If these merits cannot directly help you achieve success, then just rely on the Buddha and Bodhisattva. The Buddha's merits are the most complete and the Bodhisattva's compassion is the deepest and broadest. There is no need to rely on the guru.
The vast mysteries of Buddhism cannot be understood without the guidance and tips of a guru, no matter how smart and diligent you are. If you rely on a guru, but it is difficult to meet him, there is no point in relying on him. You should listen, think and practice under the guidance of your guru. When they understand each other, he can solve any problems you have. When you need initiation, he knows it’s time to give you initiation; when you need inheritance, he knows it’s time to pass it on to you; when you need tips, he knows it’s time to give you tips, and then he gives you the tips. You achieve enlightenment. He takes you step by step toward liberation. This kind of reliance is meaningful, and this kind of guru is your real guru.
Nowadays, people rely on the guru in a muddle-headed way, first relying on the guru and then observing. Then there are many things that slander the guru everywhere. This is a violation of the fundamental precept! If you violate the fundamental precepts, you will go to the Vajra Hell! The Vajra Hell taught in Tantric Buddhism is more severe than the Infinite Hell taught in Sutra Buddhism. Why is it called King Kong Hell? Barely able to get out.
In the process of relying on the guru, you must follow the teachings wholeheartedly. If you rely on your guru but then disobey the guru's teachings, you will be committing a very serious sin and violating the fundamental precepts. Therefore, after relying on the guru, you cannot slander the guru at any time, even if you know that he has shortcomings and mistakes, you cannot say it, because you have already relied on him. If you don't rely on the guru, although you can't talk about taking the precepts or breaking the precepts, if you slander these great virtues and achievers, the sin is the same.
2. Violate the teachings of the Buddha.
Before you understand it, you must believe what the Buddha and the guru say, and you must not despise these principles. If you know clearly that the Buddha said this, but still deliberately harm your body with a contemptuous attitude, I will practice hard and let your body suffer and be injured. This is harming the Buddha's mandala, harming the Pure Land, and harming the Buddha's body. , the sin is particularly serious.
9. Doubt the pure nature of the Dharma. Regardless of whether it is the external world or the internal sentient beings, all things, mountains, rivers, and all dharma on the earth are perfect and pure at the moment, and they are perfect and pure originally. Especially in Tantra, these principles are particularly emphasized. We often talk about the five kinds of perfection. The abode is perfect: the place we are in is the pure land of the Western Paradise; the master is perfect: the guru is Amitabha, the Buddha of Infinite Light; the retinue is perfect: these fellow Taoists and the people around you are all the venerables of the Lotus Department - the male and female deities. , Warrior Mother, Dakini Dakini; Dharma Perfection: Mahayana Dharma, Dzogchen Dharma; Time Perfection: The original continuous wheel.
You have practiced Tantric Dharma and know what is said in Tantric Dharma, but when you still have doubts in your heart, you violate the fundamental precepts. If you have not been exposed to many tantric teachings before and do not have a deep understanding of tantric teachings, you will not violate the fundamental precepts.
10. Those who respond to the punishment of annihilation will show mercy. Some people do not believe in Buddhism and do not respect the Guru and the Three Jewels. You don’t have to believe it, people’s beliefs are free, and Buddhism also says that this is your freedom. But if someone not only disbelieves and is disrespectful, but also wants to harm the Three Jewels of the Guru and harm all sentient beings, such vicious people are the ones who violate this precept.
The Three Jewels of the Guru has no enemies, but he has become the enemy of the Three Jewels of the Guru (putting himself in the position of the enemy of the Three Jewels of the Guru). If you don’t surrender to him, he will hurt the Three Jewels of the Guru. , you clearly know that there is such a great evil person, you also have the ability to subdue him through the spells and rituals for subduing demons, and you have the conditions to get along with him, but you do not take methods to subdue him or save him. , will violate this commandment.
11. Use a discerning mind to speculate on the holy Dharma that is far away from famous sayings. The holy Dharma that is far away from famous sayings is far away from all drama. The great emptiness that is indescribable and unimaginable is the real truth. Instead of practicing and relying on it properly, I try to understand it through ordinary logic and general understanding. As a result, I don’t really understand it, or I misunderstand it as the selflessness taught in sutras, especially Hinayana, or in the middle school. Looking at Dan Kong in the Sutra Sect, this is a slander.
The reasons for not being able to understand are, first, poor ability to understand, and second, limited methods. He understands it through ordinary people's concepts and limited logical thinking, and cannot understand it at all. He thought, oh, it turns out there is no difference between the no-self taught in Sutra and Hinayana. It is all about people having no self. This dismissive attitude is slander. People who know some theoretical knowledge like to talk about this, and it is easy to break this precept.
The principles taught in Mahayana Buddhism, especially Tantra, are very profound. It is impossible to understand them by studying and studying them by yourself. They can only be achieved through practicing according to the law. So don’t comment casually, saying that this is right and that is wrong; this is good and that is not good; this book is written according to the law and that book is not written according to the law. It is difficult for us to distinguish now. , so there is no need to say this. If you do that easily, you will easily break the precepts and end up in the Vajra Hell. Just cultivate yourself and take care of your body, speech and mind.
Tantric Buddhism also talks about the great emptiness, self-emptiness and other emptiness. Self-empty is single empty, and other empty is double-luck. What Tantra talks about is the original pure light. All dharmas are originally pure and perfect. They are all mandalas and Buddhas. This principle is the original pure light. The original pure light is also our own self, the Buddha nature, and our true nature. This is from the perspective of appearance. It is far away from all dramas and the great emptiness that cannot be thought or expressed. This is from the perspective of true nature. . These two are twins, and they are indistinguishable. Although it is difficult for us to fully understand these principles at the beginning - the five perfections, the Tathagata of the Self, and the Mandala of the Self, you have to believe that as long as you believe, you will not violate the precepts. If your master tells you something and you practice it, but you still don't believe it, then you will be violating the precepts.
12. Destroy the confidence of believers.
The opposite situation is a person who has confidence in the Three Jewels of the Guru, the Buddha Dharma, especially the Tantric Dharma. If you deliberately hinder his belief, want to lose his confidence, and then use various methods to hinder him, the result If his faith weakens, then he has violated the fundamental precept.
The country emphasizes freedom of belief, and Buddhism also emphasizes freedom of belief. Everyone's faith is different. You may have faith in this sect, but others may not be the same as you. His faith is cultivated by himself. Some people believe in other sects and have faith in other Dharma and other masters, and then you persuade them, beat and scold them, and use these methods to hinder their faith and make them lose confidence, you will also commit this crime. Quit.
13. Do not accept pledge items. Tantra has many different practices, and sometimes special instruments are used. These instruments are unclean from a worldly perspective, such as those made of human skulls, human skin, and hair. You must not be disgusted or disrespectful towards these things, and you must accept them when it is time to accept them. In some practices, some offerings and blessings are also quite special. For example, when we make fire offerings, we use wine and meat as offerings.
We usually don’t have to come into contact with these, but sometimes we use these vow objects in practice. Why use human head, hair, and skin to make utensils? Those special magical instruments and these practices are all expressions. They have special uses and profound meanings. Many people don't understand these principles now, but we can't have no confidence in these methods. We can't Slander cannot be disrespectful, nor can there be even the thought of doubt. We must have confidence in these, be respectful, and must accept them when the time comes. You know that there are these special practices in Tantra, but you still feel dirty and disgusted and refuse to accept them. This will violate the precepts.
Everything is a representation. For example, there are twin Buddha statues in Tantric Buddhism, which are also representations. The real Buddha is manifested and emptied without duality, clear emptiness and emptiness without duality, and blissful emptiness without duality. It is not single emptiness. Tantra talks about blissful emptiness and clear emptiness. Those below the Supreme Yoga talk about emptiness and non-duality. Those above Supreme Yoga talk about blissful emptiness and non-duality. Sutras, especially the Madhyamaka school, talk about great emptiness, but the emptiness they finally talk about is not just emptiness. Manifesting emptiness without duality is the truth and truth. This is the nature of all dharma and the true Buddha.
The Heart Sutra says that form is emptiness and emptiness is form. This is the truth. Form is not separated from emptiness, and emptiness is not separated from form; form itself is emptiness, and emptiness itself is form. If you look for appearance alone, this is attachment, which is not the truth and truth; if you look for emptiness alone, this is called emptiness, which is not truth and truth. So what is truth and truth? What is a real Buddha? Appearing emptiness without duality, knowing emptiness without duality, and enjoying emptiness without duality are the true Buddhas and our true nature. The twin Buddhas represent our true nature, the Buddha-nature, which is the duality of manifest emptiness and duality—the duality of happiness and emptiness, and the duality of clarity and emptiness. Many people do not understand its meaning and slander it everywhere, creating a lot of karma.
When ordinary people look at these special practices, offerings, blessings, and instruments mentioned in Tantric Buddhism, how can they offer these? How to use these? As soon as I come into contact, I feel a sense of fear and dirtiness, and I dare not accept it. All dharmas are originally pure and perfect, and have Buddha nature. This is all due to our own discriminating mind. These dharma objects have special uses and profound meanings. When you don’t understand them, just believe what the Buddha and the guru say. Don’t comment or make distinctions easily. Doing so will violate the fundamental precepts.
14. Insulting smart women. Buddhism talks about equality, especially Tantra, which emphasizes that men and women are equal. Men represent convenience and women represent wisdom. Many great achievers achieved perfection through wisdom dakinis, so women must be respected and not slandered.
But in Sutra, especially Hinayana, when comparing men and women, the level of women is relatively low. Hinayana says that women have many worries and bad habits, so the Buddha has stricter requirements for women. There are 253 full precepts for a monk, and 364 for a bhikshuni. A bhikshuni who has received the full precepts must also kowtow to the novice monk and sit behind him. Men and women are not that equal.
What is the limit for violating this fundamental precept? First, the target is all women. Second, it was said in a dismissive manner. Third, speak ill of all women, their shortcomings and faults, and insult all women.
If the person is a woman alone, scolding her or talking about her shortcomings does not violate the fundamental precepts. Fourth, the result is that the other party heard and understood. As long as the above four conditions are met, the fundamental precept is violated. There are many Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who appear as women, especially during the Dharma Ending Period. Therefore, if we talk about the faults of all women, it is easy to slander Buddha and Bodhisattvas. Women are all like this, greedy and jealous. If you talk about the faults of all women like this, you are breaking this commandment.
