Ban Chao is ambitious, respectful and cautious. Influenced by his father Ban Gu, Ban Chao read widely since childhood, but his family was poor, so he could only do paperwork for the government in exchange for a salary.
Ban Chao, unwilling to copy documents for the court all his life, decided to try his luck on the horse, so he joined the army and followed Dou Gu to attack the northern Xiongnu. Later, he was ordered to send many missions to the western regions, which made great contributions to stabilizing the western regions. In the process of going to the western regions, he was also bold and cautious, and did many things praised by later generations.
Since Wang Mang usurped the Han Dynasty, the countries in the western regions have been controlled by the Northern Xiongnu and separated from the control of the Han Dynasty. Ban Chao, who followed Dou Gu's Northern Expedition to Xiongnu, knew this very well, so he went to the Western Regions to find Shanshan and wanted to pull Shanshan to Hanying. At the beginning, things really developed as Ban Chao expected, and King Shanshan took good care of them, often being caring and attentive, and his attitude was very low. But King Shanshan's attitude suddenly took a 180 degree turn, and the sensitive Ban Chao guessed that it was the messenger of the Northern Xiongnu. After in-depth investigation, Ban Chao confirmed his guess.
After careful consideration, Ban Chao decided to strike first. First, he got the residence of the Xiongnu messenger from the waiter. After that, he asked 36 men to drink together. When the wine rose, he said to everyone: When we first came, King Shanshan was so enthusiastic, but now he is so cold. It's all because of the Huns' emissary. There are only two ways before us now, either give in easily or pre-empt and kill all the Xiongnu messengers. After hearing Ban Chao's words, his men were furious and burned all the Huns' residences and all the Huns' messengers overnight.
Pieced together by Ban Chao, even if King Shanshan wanted to explain to the northern Xiongnu, he jumped into the Yellow River and was washed away. There is no way but to join the Han Dynasty. During his decades of working in the Western Regions, Ban Chao used various methods to make western countries join the Han Dynasty. It played an important role in maintaining the stability of the western frontier, so it was named Dingyuan Hou.
