USMC is a general and commander of the United States Marine Corps. During the Battle of Guadalcanal in World War II, he commanded the Marine Corps 1 Division to conduct ground attacks. He won the Medal of Honor at the Battle of Solomon Islands. Vandegrift later served as the commander of the 18 Marine Corps, and was the first four-star general of the US Marine Corps.

Alexander Alexander Van Degrift. General of the United States Marine Corps, born in Charlottesville, Virginia on March 1887. His father is a successful contractor. Vandegrift studied at the University of Virginia during 1905- 1908. When he was a child, he often listened to adults telling stories about the American war, and read many military historical novels during his study, so he admired the war heroes in the stories very much. But then dropped out of school and joined the United States Marine Corps. 1909, Vandegrift was promoted to second lieutenant. In the next fourteen years, as a member of the "Veteran's Division", he served in Nicaragua, Panama, Mexico and Haiti. 1923 became the adjutant of General smedley darlington butler. Before being sent to China, he worked with Butler for three years and carried out a series of tasks.
1928, Vandegrift returned to the United States. In the next seven years, he served in the Marine Corps bases in Washington and Quantico, and helped formulate the regulations on amphibious operations in Quantico. During the period of 1935- 1937, he visited China as a member of the marine corps ambassador delegation, and after returning to Washington, he entered the office of the marine corps commander, helping the marine corps to make great progress in the next four years.
Shortly after the outbreak of World War II, Vandegrift became the division commander of Marine Corps 1 Division, commanding troops to participate in the long and dangerous battle of Guadao. 1942 12, Vandegrift and Marine Corps 1 Division were taken over by other troops and evacuated from Guadalcanal. Because of his outstanding performance in the Battle of Guadalcanal, he became a well-known war hero and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
1 In the middle of 1943, Vandegrift was appointed as the commander of the amphibious unit1army of the Marine Corps in the South Pacific Theater, and was recalled from the theater the following year to become the first 18 commander of the US Marine Corps. 1945 was promoted to general in April, becoming the first active marine to be awarded a four-star general. In February, Vandegrift retired. During his service, he won 24 medals and honorary medals, and was awarded the honorary title of doctor of military science or doctor of law by 7 universities. 1973 died in Bethesda, Maryland on May 8th. .
