It also refers to Shanhaiguan District, also known as Yuguan, Yuguan and Linlu Pass, and is a demonstration site of national civilized scenic tourist areas. Located 15 kilometers northeast of Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, it gathers the essence of the ancient Great Wall in China and is one of the northeast passes of the Ming Great Wall. Before 199, it was considered as the starting point of the eastern end of the Ming Great Wall, and it was known as "the first pass in the world", "the throat of the border county, and the guarantee of the capital". It echoes Jiayuguan thousands of miles away and is famous all over the world.
Shanhaiguan City, with a circumference of about 4 kilometers, is connected with the Great Wall, with the city as the gateway. The city is 14 meters high and 7 meters thick, with four main gates and various defensive buildings.
The scenic spot covers an area of .1 square kilometers, including the Arrow Tower, Jingbian Building, Muying Building, Linlu Building, Ruilian Pavilion Park, Wengcheng, Yiguan Square and the 1,35-meter-long Ming Plain Great Wall. Named after the scenic spot covering the landmark building of Shanhaiguan-"the first watchtower in the world", it is the most complete military defense system of the Great Wall so far. "The first watchtower in the world", also known as "the east tower of the town", is the east gate of Shanhaiguan City. According to the Records of Linyu County, it was repaired many times during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and it was repaired many times after liberation. The building area of the tower is 198 square meters. Its building is a single-eaved roof of Xieshan, and its four corners are decorated with various kinds of ridged beasts. There are 68-hole arrow windows in the north, east and south. Above the Arrow Tower, the most striking thing is the giant plaque of "the first pass in the world". There are three plaques inside and outside the building, and the original plaque is hung on the first floor.
On March 4th, 1961, Wan Li Great Wall-Shanhaiguan was announced by the State Council as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
