Liu Youping, whose courtesy name is Laoquan and whose Buddhist name is Huiyou. Born in Honghu, Hubei in 1966, he studied calligraphy at the age of nine and has profound skills. His official calligraphy is based on French and Han steles and bamboo slips and silk scripts. It has an ancient charm and distinctive artistic personality, making him outstanding in the contemporary calligraphy world. His works won: the first Hubei Province Yellow Crane Tower Cultural Award; the second prize of the Sixth Hubei Province Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Award; the Xizhi Cup National Calligraphy Grand Prix Excellence Award; the Eighth National Book Exhibition; the first National Youth Award and other national awards.
Published Buddhist scriptures in small regular script, "Medicine Master Glazed Light Tathagata's Original Vows and Merits Sutra", "Appreciation of Liu Youping's Calligraphy", and "Liu Youping's Famous Quotes in Official Script". Held two solo exhibitions: Wenzhou Exhibition Hall and Beijing Daqian Gallery Art Museum.
