Du Fu was born in an aristocratic family. He lived a happy and carefree life when he was young.
19 to 22 years old, Du Fu roamed wuyue and other places, enjoying the magnificent mountains and rivers in the prosperous Tang Dynasty and looking forward to a better life.
Du Fu, 24, took the Jinshi exam. Although he failed in the exam, he relied on his father's salary, but he didn't worry about his food and clothing expenses. He is also going to Shandong and Hebei.
At the age of 32, Du Fu met another pride of the Tang Dynasty-Li Bai. The two men met each other after a brief encounter, and forged a profound friendship.
However, as he grew older, Du Fu was no longer young and began to think about his future. Although his ancestors had some savings, it was impossible to live with an empty pocket. After careful consideration, Du Fu chose to be an official, which he thought was the only way to realize his ambition.
So Du Fu began his long journey of seeking officials.
At the age of 35, Du Fu went to Chang 'an at the invitation of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty, only to find that it was just a farce for show. Seeing that the road to the imperial examination was hopeless, Du Fu could only hope on the road of paying homage to the dignitaries.
At the age of 39, when Du Fu held a sacrificial ceremony in Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, he specially presented three "Da Li Fu", which was finally appreciated by Xuanzong. But I don't want to just stand by and wait for distribution in Jixian Hospital, and finally there is no news.
Du Fu felt lost, just saw a glimmer of hope, and then disappeared. At this time, Du Fu was already living in poverty and struggling. Official position is not only an honor for him, but also a necessity for survival. He desperately needs that meager salary to maintain his expenses. I can think of his hardship and depression at that time.
Time soon arrived in 755 AD, which was a special year in the history of the Tang Dynasty and an important year in Du Fu's life.
Du Fu was 43 years old this year and was finally appointed. He was appointed commander of Hexi, and Du Fu refused to serve as this small official. "If you don't be commander of Hexi, you will be miserable." That's the poem you wrote for it. Later, the court changed him into a soldier guarding armor and managing keys. Although he knew this was a useless position, Du Fu had to accept it because of his livelihood. At this time, he has been in Chang 'an for ten years, the most precious years in his life have passed away, his black hair has turned white, his young beating heart has lost its vitality, and he has gradually adapted to the corrupt and chaotic officialdom around him.
What happened next was a bolt from the blue for Du Fu. His youngest son starved to death in poverty in his hometown. It is undoubtedly the saddest thing in life to lose a child in middle age and send a white-haired man to a black-haired man. There are few records about this period in history, but we can imagine what a blow this is to Du Fu, a Confucian scholar who advocates loyalty, filial piety and benevolence. The burden of life is never so cruel that he can't breathe.
This year, Du Fu had not recovered from the loss of his son, and the Anshi Rebellion began.
In the second year, Tongguan fell, Xuanzong fled to the west, and Prince Hengli Suzong acceded to the throne. Du Fu is a 44-year-old Confucian scholar. Although he is a small official, he is concerned about the country and the people and is not afraid of life and death. He went north alone to find Su Zong. Unexpectedly, he was captured by rebels on the way and taken to Chang 'an.
In 757 AD, Du Fu risked his life to escape from Chang 'an and finally invested in Su Zong's account. Su Zong was deeply moved, and was awarded the left addendum, hoping to reuse it. Unexpectedly, the good times did not last long, and the Prime Minister Fang Fang was defeated. Du Fu was demoted for saving Fangfang, angered Su Zong, and was gradually marginalized and no longer used.
Du Fu's short career also came to an end.
From being demoted to 767 AD, Du Fu was 55 years old. Over the past ten years, there has been constant war, and Du Fu has no fixed place and is wandering around the southwest. Because there is no source of income, Du Fu often has no food and clothing, so he can only go to relatives and friends and make ends meet by various relief.
At the age of 56, Du Fu was exhausted, and the older he got, the more homesick he became. Close your eyes at night and see the scenery of your hometown. At that time, I was young and free, walking on the familiar streets of the familiar manor and looking back at my gray-haired mother. He can't wait any longer. He is eager to go back to his home and see the place where he was born and raised, even for a moment.
So Du Fu traveled by boat and went north via Jiangling Yueyang. During this period, he was forced to return to the south because of poverty and war. The ship has been turning around Tanzhou, and the road to the north is gradually drifting away.
In the winter of 770 AD, in Tanzhou, Du Fu lost his last patience and closed his eyes with regret. A great poet died at the age of 58.
Nowadays, when we read Du Fu's poems, we can't see his complaints about his unsuccessful life, only his pity for the whole world and his love for the working people. As he wrote in "The Hut is Broken by Autumn Wind":
There are tens of millions of buildings in Ande, which makes all the poor people in the world very happy!
