This question brought back memories of my childhood. At that time, there was no running water in the village. Every household dug a well in their own yard and drank the water from the well. At that time, you could drink the well water directly, it was cool and sweet. We brought up the well water and poured it into the water tank. As long as the water tank at home is relatively large, people like to put one or several crucian carps in it. At that time, we naughty kids even threw the crucian carp caught from the river into the well and kept it.

It is interesting to raise fish in a water tank. Since the water in the tank is for drinking, we cannot feed it every day like the fish in the fish tank now. The fish in the tank have never been fed, so why don't they starve to death?
Why don’t fish starve to death? In fact, this is the reason why there is a fish in the water tank. Some large water tanks hold a lot of water. A tank full of water will not be used up for several days. Especially in summer, if there are no fish in the water tank, we will find that the water becomes turbid, and there may even be small red bugs and green algae produced. If you put a crucian carp in the water tank, the water in the tank will remain clear for a relatively long time.

This is because crucian carp eats microorganisms, small bugs and algae in the water. This way the water in the tank will not go bad in a shorter period of time. Crucian carp relies on these creatures in the water as food to avoid starving to death.
After all, there are relatively few microorganisms in the water tank, which can barely sustain the survival of crucian carp. Therefore, although crucian carp will not starve to death in the water tank, it will not grow very big. This also confirms the famous saying "If the water is clear, there will be no fish." If the water is too clear, there will be less food in the water. The fish would not live here if they had no food to eat. The life of fish in the tank is relatively difficult.
What happened to the crucian carp that was thrown into the well mentioned earlier? Once, the adults dug out a well and fished them out, and found that all of them were flat-bellied, skinny and without any flesh. Without sunlight in the well water, there is less food to eat, and these fish are starving.

Despite this, these crucian carp are still tenaciously alive. Crucian carp is very tenacious. If it were any other fish, it would die in less than half a day if put in the tank. Crucian carp can survive in the tank for several years.
