In ancient times, there were three versions of The Analects: Gu Lun, Lu Lun and Qi Lun. The Analects of Confucius that you see now is a version formed by Lu Lun and Gu Lun.
1. Gentlemen are harmonious but different, while villains are identical but not harmonious.
The meaning of this sentence is that a gentleman can maintain a harmonious atmosphere with his surroundings, but he will have his own unique views on everything, instead of following others' advice. Little people have no opinions of their own. Although consistent with others, but in fact can not adhere to the real harmony.
Through this sentence, we can see that in life, we must be gentlemen. Although we may have different views from others, we should learn to be tolerant. When others have different views and opinions from us, we should be able to communicate honestly and discuss with each other. This sentence does not only care about our own opinions, or can't tolerate other people's opinions, but warns us to be harmonious and different in life.
2. Gentleman's righteousness, villain's benefit.
This sentence means that a gentleman values morality and a villain values interests.
The root cause of this sentence is the existence of the central idea. Confucius said: a gentleman thinks that righteousness is the quality and courtesy is the deed. What should be done and what should not be done? A gentleman always follows the principle of "the ratio of righteousness". This sentence also warns us that we should consider one thing, whether it should be done or not, whether it is moral, rather than being driven by interests and forgetting what we should do.
3. Review the past and learn the new, and you can be a teacher.
This sentence is also from The Analects of Confucius. We have been studying in books since we were students. This sentence means that you can review old knowledge at any time and gain new knowledge and experience from it, so you can become a teacher with this.
We can't treat the content with a little knowledge. The same content may be different in different periods and different moods. We should always review the old and learn the new, and not stay on the old knowledge.
Haste makes waste, but when you see small profits, you can't make a big deal.
This sentence means that I just want to realize it. Too impatient, but not. Without considering the small interests, it can't be a big deal.
This sentence is also warning us. Haste makes waste, haste makes waste, and will eventually lead to failure. When doing things, we should take a long-term view, pay attention to the accumulation of knowledge and accumulate wealth. Never be eager for quick success and instant benefit.
5. Listen to what he says and see what he does.
This sentence tells us that we can't just look at the surface and listen to what he says and does, so that we can fully understand.
6. People who have no long-term worries must have near worries.
If a person does not have long-term consideration and plan when considering things, then there will be immediate troubles. A wise man will not be bound by immediate gains and losses, because he considers long-term development, not immediate interests.
This sentence tells us that when we think about problems, we must have long-term plans, and we must not disturb our thoughts for some immediate gains and losses, so that we will have long-term worries.
Well, that's it for today's Analects. In fact, there is a lot of great wisdom in The Analects, which is worth learning. There are many reasons for dealing with people, which are worth studying slowly. The Analects is a university. If we study hard, we believe it will be of great help to our life.
