Emperor Wendi of China (formerly known as Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty) successfully unified China after hundreds of years of serious division. Since then, China has maintained political unity for most centuries, so it is basically one of the powerful countries in the world. An important result of political unification is that China people, who account for about one fifth of the world's total population, suffer less from the horrors of war than residents in Europe, the Middle East and most other parts of the world.
