When Emperor Taizong ascended the throne, he was very supportive of Buddhism, building more than 400 temples and supporting countless monks. I have great respect for monks. I once said to someone, "Being a monk is really a gentleman, especially as a public servant." However, not long after, ordinary monks did not abide by laws and regulations, and their practice was not as good as Buddhism, so they became unhappy and had less and less support. The emperor asked Master Xuanzang, "Is it a blessing to support the monks?" The master replied, "Kunshan has jade mixed with sand. Lishui produces gold, not gravel. Carve the civil works into arhats, and you will be blessed with respect. Copper and iron cast the ability of gold, but they destroyed it. Although the mud dragon can't rain, it must beg for rain. Although not all monks can bless, we must respect all monks when we practice blessing. " In other words, Kunshan is rich in jade, which is inevitably mixed with sand, and Lishui produces gold, which is inevitably accompanied by gravel. Lohan, a civil work, can be respectfully blessed. Although the Buddha statue made of copper and iron is not true, it is guilty to be destroyed. Although the mud dragon can't rain, when it rains, for example, it still burns incense to worship the dragon king made of mud. Although all monks have not yet realized the true Arhat Bodhisattva, they will be blessed if they are supported by 250 monks' commandments and three clothes made of Buddha. One day, Emperor Taizong asked Xuanzang, "I have seen many monks, but my behavior is not good enough."
Xuanzang said: "
There is more jade in Kunshan than gravel.
Lishui produces gold without sediment.
Folk sculpture Lohan,
Blessed are those who respect.
Copper and iron are made of gold,
Whoever destroyed it is guilty.
The mud dragon won't rain,
Those who ask for rain must pray for the mud dragon.
Every monk and nun cannot cure happiness,
Those who seek happiness must respect all monks and nuns.
Hearing this, Emperor Taizong was convinced and said, "I will respect every little novice monk as a walker in the future."
