Qianlong Imperial Poems from Bitong Academy

From the Qianlong imperial poem "Ode to Forty Views of Old Summer Palace":

"Bitong Academy"

It is connected to the Pingqiao in front and surrounded by water. There are several walnut trees on the left and right sides of the courtyard, covered with green sunlight, as if you were in a cool land. Every time I hear the sound of rain, it is enough to move my poetic mood.

The moon turns, the wind returns and the green shadows turn,

The rainy windows are particularly noisy.

Sound, color, and color are silent.

Don’t ask about the Ni Family Lion Garden.

Note:

Ni Family Lion Park: Ni Family refers to the home of Ni Yunlin in the Yuan Dynasty. It is said that he was the cleanest person. There were six tung trees in front of the court, and he sent a boy to carry water to wash them every day. Qianlong named this scene Bitong Academy, and the Ni family was mentioned in the poem, which was originally written here. The Lion Garden refers to the Lion Grove in Suzhou, where Zen Master Tianru advocated Taoism in the Yuan Dynasty, and where Ni Yunlin once lived in seclusion.
