Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez (March 6, 1927 - April 17, 2014 Japan), is a Colombian writer, journalist and social activist, a representative figure of Latin American magical realism literature, one of the most influential writers of the 20th century, and winner of the 1982 Nobel Prize for Literature. As a gifted novelist who has won widespread acclaim, García Márquez combines realism and fantasy to create a mythical history of Colombia and the entire South American continent in turmoil. His representative works include "One Hundred Years of Solitude" (1967) and "Love in the Time of Cholera" (1985).
