Content introduction:
Twelve Contemporary Economists is a collection of works introducing major contemporary economists. After Schumpeter's Ten Economists, it is the first book in the west that tries to systematically introduce some of the most famous economists in the world after World War II. This book contains 12 economists, and the editors are J.R. shackleton and gareth Locksley. Published by British Macmillan Publishing Company in 198 1 year.
According to the following three criteria, the editor selected these twelve economists as "Twelve Contemporary Economists". First of all, their most important works were written in the last 40 years or so. The reason why the editor determines such a standard is because Twelve Contemporary Economists mainly does not reflect the development history of economics, but focuses on the modern characteristics of economics, involving the most prominent problems after the war-economic growth, inflation, the role of the state, big companies, economic planning and so on. Second, they have done pioneering research in this discipline, not just synthesizing or improving other people's ideas. Among these twelve people, Friedman, Hayek, Hicks, Leontief, Samuelson and Buchanan are the winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics. Although economists such as Galbraith, Robbins, Robinson, Becker and Kalecki sraffa have different views, most people have the same view. Third, they all have a great influence on their peers in economics. That is, their works are either cited by other people's works, or a new generation of economists have adopted the same theoretical system and the same analytical method intentionally or unintentionally. 12 contemporary economists collected 13 articles. The first chapter is the introduction, which tells the compiling purpose of Twelve Contemporary Scholars and the brief situation of twelve economists, and makes some comparative analysis of their economic thoughts from several main aspects. The articles introducing these 12 economists are arranged alphabetically by their names in the book.
