From Laozi's Tao Te Ching: It is better to keep the middle than to talk too much and count too few. This sentence is adapted.
"The disease comes from the mouth, and the disaster comes from the mouth." A gentleman keeps his mouth shut, so he should be sensitive to what he says and cautious about what he does. No matter in life or at work, people should also pay attention to the way they speak. Don't say anything that is not conducive to unity. He who dares to say anything for himself must be afraid of nothing. This is not far away.
Extended data:
Pay attention to your words and deeds, a gentleman's way:
From Caigen Tan, Caigen Tan is a collection of quotations about self-cultivation, social life, life and birth compiled by Taoist Hong Yingming at the end of Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of Ming Dynasty.
Original text:
It may not be surprising that there are nine out of ten words, but if one word is wrong, it will be a good collection; 90% of the ten attempts may not be attributed to it. An attempt that fails is a public opinion. A gentleman would rather be silent than impetuous, and it is no coincidence that Ning Zhuo.
Translation:
Even if you can say nine out of ten sentences correctly, you may not be praised, but if you say one wrong sentence, you will be criticized one after another; Even if you succeed in nine cases out of ten, it is not necessarily because of you, but as long as one fails, complaints and accusations will follow.
Therefore, a gentleman would rather keep a taciturn attitude, never be impulsive and impatient, rather be clumsy and never be conceited and superior.
Comments:
In real life, a strange phenomenon often appears. Doing is better than not doing it, and saying it is better than not saying it, because doing it will expose the shortcomings; When you say it, your thoughts are exposed; You have done a lot, achieved a lot, and you have become the target of criticism.
Because your success hinders others, and some people just like to speak ill of others. This mentality is full of schadenfreude, curiosity and authority. I always feel that I can spread a message that exposes others' privacy, which shows that I am a well-informed person.
In order to satisfy their desire for authority, there is a saying that "good things don't go out, bad things spread thousands of miles". Good things can't go out, because people are jealous and refuse to mention them when they see something glorious in you. As a result, this kind of good thing went up in smoke and froze.
So the world will never know. On the other hand, once a bad thing is done, it will spread rapidly, driven by people's schadenfreude, and soon everyone will know. This is why the author has the idea that "nine out of ten words may not be surprising, but if one word is wrong, it will be a collection of excellent words".
Ten attempts may not be attributed to 90%, and one failure is a sigh. "Be cautious in words and deeds" is of course one way to protect yourself here, but it also shows another way, that is, after careful consideration.
