"How good is high? It is still difficult to go down! " What do you mean?
Is it better at the top than at the bottom? It is not easy to get up and down! It means riding a tiger is difficult. People in high positions always have all kinds of troubles. It is not easy to get out of that circle.

This sentence comes from Liu Erkui, a Lanzhou scholar in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, and was inscribed on Wuquan Mountain. Because Liu Erkui is a scholar at the age of 26, he entered Beijing as an official for three years, and then resigned and returned to his hometown, which made me feel very similar! It's best to be flat and faint, with the intention of flying high and falling badly!

Extended data:

Liu Erkui was born in Tongzhi for three years (AD 1864) and died in the 20th year of the Republic of China (AD 193 1). He was born in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, in the fifth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (AD 1 year).

In the 11th year of Guangxu, he won the sixth place after having obtained the provincial examination. At the age of 26, he was admitted to imperial academy and awarded the Jishi Shu. Guangxu was the editor of the Hanlin Academy for twenty years. Three years later, he resigned and returned to Lanzhou, where he devoted himself to studying, founded a learning society and studied in an academy, and did many beneficial things for the local area.

In scholarship, he attaches importance to practical learning and opposes empty reading. Students are required to "push to the end and achieve mastery through a comprehensive study" in reading.

He devoted his life to the development of local culture in Lanzhou, and trained many talents including Wang Huogen, Yang Juchuan and Zhao. Shortly after his death, some social groups founded "Zhiguo Middle School" (now Lanzhou No.2 Middle School), which is a deep memory of him.
