Arthur Shelby is the older brother of Tommy and John and the eldest member of the Shelby family. Although Arthur was the elder brother, he did not shoulder the burden of the family. Arthur, John and Tommy worked as diggers on the French battlefield together. Like other veterans, Arthur was left with severe psychological trauma that would affect his later life.

When I first met Arthur, he was violent and impulsive, and would often fight with others if he disagreed. For Arthur, any disrespectful words towards his family are the reasons for him to take action. Arthur lives a very casual life. His daily routine is to get drunk so that he can forget the pain of the war. For Tommy, Arthur and John are his most capable assistants.
