Zengzi said: "I have to examine myself three times every day: Have I been unfaithful in my plans for others? Have I not trusted my friends in my dealings? Have I not learned what I preach?"
Translated into vernacular it is like this: "I must use three things to reflect on myself every day: Is there anything I don't do my best in doing things for others? Is there anything dishonest in my interactions with friends? Have I reviewed the teacher's teachings?" This is what Zeng Zi said about the "three provinces" ". This "three provinces" covers two aspects. One is self-cultivation, and the other is dealing with others. Be honest with others. Integrity is a sign of bright personality. You should neither deceive others nor yourself. When you do things for others, you must be dedicated, and only by being dedicated can you not be sloppy or perfunctory. This is the basic virtue of human beings. Self-cultivation cannot be one thing at a time. Self-cultivation must last throughout your life. You must always review old experiences and seek new knowledge. You cannot stop. Once you stop, you will become rigid.
