geographical environment

The strata in Fanjingshan area are mainly composed of two sets of volcanic-sedimentary rock series strata, namely Mesoproterozoic Fanjingshan Group and Qingbaikou Banxi Group, which are separated by an angle unconformity.

Banxi Group is mainly distributed in the areas of Fenghuangshan, Jindingshan, Mantoushan and Niutoushan in front of Fanjing Mountain and the core of dome structure, with metamorphic conglomerate, residual sandstone and phyllite exposed. Fan Jingqun is almost entirely distributed in the core of Fan Jingshan dome, with typical basic-ultrabasic magma and a small amount of intermediate-acid lava widely exposed.

The geological sequence of Fanjingshan area is the key to understand the evolution of sedimentary basins in the early Neoproterozoic. Fan Jing Formation is divided into 7 lithologic groups with a total thickness of over 9400 meters, forming a complete basin sedimentary record. According to the isotopic dating of Fan Jing Group, the oldest stratum exposed, a complete sedimentary record of the basin was formed, with the geological age of10 ~1400 million years.
