Yuci was called "Earth Water" and "Wei Yu" in the Spring and Autumn Period and "Yuci" in the Warring States Period. Yuci District is located at 1948 and Yuci City at 1954. On September 24th 1999, Yuci City was revoked and renamed as Yuci District of Jinzhong City.
