If a young man does not work hard, the old man will be miserable. (Han Yuefu's "Long Song Xing") The edge of a sword comes from sharpening, and the fragrance of plum blossoms comes from the bitter cold. The pen falls in the storm, and the poem becomes weeping ghosts and gods. (Du Fu) If you don't care about Fengya, I will be your teacher. (Du Fu) Be broad-minded and appreciative, accumulate thickly but thinly. (Su Shi) Learn it eruditely, interrogate it, think carefully, discern it clearly, and practice it diligently. ("Book of Rites") If you don't climb a high mountain, you don't know how high the sky is; if you don't go to a deep stream, you don't know how thick the earth is. ("Xunzi") If you don't fly, you will reach the sky; if you don't sing, you will become a blockbuster. (Sima Qian) This story is an example of accumulation and success, right? During the Spring and Autumn Period, King Wu Fu Chai relied on his strong national power to lead troops to attack the State of Yue. As a result, the State of Yue was defeated, and King Gou Jian of Yue was captured and taken to the State of Wu. In order to humiliate the king of Yue, the king of Wu sent him to look after the tomb and feed the horses, which were tasks that only slaves could do. Although the King of Yue was very unconvinced, he still tried his best to pretend to be loyal and obedient. When King Wu went out, he walked in front and held the horse; when King Wu was ill, he tried his best to take care of him at his bedside. King Wu saw that he was serving him so wholeheartedly and felt that he was very loyal to him, so he finally allowed him to return to Yue. After the King of Yue returned home, he was determined to wash away the shame of being a prisoner in the state of Wu. In order to warn himself not to forget his revenge, he slept on hard firewood every day and hung a piece of gall on the door. He tasted it before eating and going to bed, in order to let himself remember the lesson. In addition, he often went to the people to inspect people's conditions, solve problems for the people, let the people live and work in peace and contentment, and at the same time strengthen the training of the army. After ten years of hard struggle, the State of Yue became rich and powerful, so the King of Yue personally led the army to attack the State of Wu and successfully won the victory. King Fu Chai of Wu was so ashamed that he committed suicide after the defeat. Later, the Yue State took advantage of its victory and marched into the Central Plains, becoming a major power in the late Spring and Autumn Period.
