This is a cautionary saying from a 17th-century German poet, whose specific name is unknown.
There is such a passage that has been widely reprinted:
At the entrance to the Dachau concentration camp in Germany, there is a warning quote from a 17th-century poet: "When a regime begins to burn books , if it is not stopped, its next step will be to burn people! When a regime starts to silence people, if it is not stopped, its next step will be to silence people!"
But the door to the German concentration camp is generally silent! It is only engraved with "Arbeit macht frei", which means "labor brings freedom". The accuracy of this sentence cannot be confirmed.
Extended information:
May 10, 1933, a shameful day destined to be recorded in history. On this day, the Germans burned the books of many thinkers. It is worth noting that this Nazi campaign to suppress the thoughts of the Chinese people has received enthusiastic support from the German people, especially young people.
Heinrich Heine wrote the famous line "This is only a prelude. Where they burn books, they will eventually burn people there" (Das war ein Vorspiel nur, dort wo man Bücher verbrennt , verbrennt man auch am Ende Menschen" written in 1820) is like a prophecy in which the Germans proudly march towards the future grave.
Now in the center of the Bebelplatz square in Berlin, Germany, there is a Book Burning Monument, this sentence is engraved on the plaque next to the monument.
