The night before yesterday, a student left a message on my blog: "We are now facing the problem of upcoming internships. Facing the internship, some of us are really at a loss, including myself. We are worried about the future. What I learned in school is not enough in clinical practice. I am worried that I will make mistakes in clinical nursing! I have already suffered from internship syndrome! Teacher, how should I deal with it when it comes to internship? Seeing students so confused and anxious makes me unable to sleep at night. Yesterday afternoon, I specially communicated with some class cadres of all classes in the School of Nursing who are about to go out of school to practice in hospitals this year. My purpose is to relieve their confusion by doing a good job for these class cadres, and then use them to do a good job for the classmates in the class. After an afternoon of communication, everyone responded very well. In order to let more students understand the main content of the exchange, some of my personal opinions are summarized as follows for your reference. Let me first tell you that at this time of year, we always encounter many students asking us such questions. This is a normal thing. Every student who goes to internship will have some kind of ideological confusion or mental stress. Don’t think that you are the only one who is a little confused, overly worried or afraid. . After all, internship is the transitional stage for students from school to social life and clinical work. I liken it to a pre-training for society similar to a mock exam. It is an alternative learning method that is different from campus learning and changes the learning environment. It is completely understandable for students to feel nervous and anxious before exams, and to feel confused and uncomfortable when changing their learning methods and learning environment. What preparations should be made for how to do a good internship? I believe that for students who have no hospital practice experience or social life experience, they must not only change their roles in time and prepare their skills and knowledge, but also change their mindset and be mentally and psychologically prepared. Specifically, we need to make some preparations: First, we must prepare ourselves with knowledge and skills. There is a famous saying that goes like this: "It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness!". Some students are always worried that what they learn in school is not good enough or useful enough, and they are afraid that they will be helpless in clinical practice. Let me tell you, instead of worrying about insufficient knowledge and unfamiliar skills, it is better to take the "final kick" just like the college entrance examination! On the eve of going to the internship, strive to play less, seize the time, repeatedly review commonly used clinical knowledge, and carefully prepare the knowledge before the internship. And actively participate in the pre-internship skills strengthening training organized by the college. As long as you pass intensive training, you will generally be able to perform basic tasks. Second, we must prepare material utensils. The ancients said: "Before the soldiers and horses are moved, food and grass go first." We are not fighting a war, but after going out of school, especially to an internship in a foreign country, it is necessary to settle down in daily life such as food, clothing and daily life. You should learn about the basic conditions of the place and hospital where you are going, including climate, living habits, food and housing conditions, etc. from the Internet or related channels, and prepare supplies. Last year, a student in my class wanted to see the sea, so she went to a hospital in Hainan. I wrote a special article to tell her how to see the sea; another student went to Changsha. When I went to visit them, I found that it was difficult to live and eat, but the house they rented had a kitchen, so I told her to buy cooking utensils with her roommate and cook by herself. Later, they really did it and improved their lives. In addition, bring materials, internship clothes, books, notebooks and pens. Especially diaries and small notepads. During the internship, you should put no or less mobile phones in your pockets and more small notepads. You should be able to record the teacher's teachings and write down your own insights at any time. Third, be prepared to choose a hospital correctly. Many of our students choose their internship hospital mainly based on the choices of other students, the decisions of their parents, and the opinions of others in society. This is a sign of following the trend and blindly following the herd. is incorrect! When choosing an internship hospital, you should decide where to go based on your actual situation and future needs. It is important to understand that various types of hospitals have their own strengths and advantages, as well as corresponding shortcomings and weaknesses. For example, in large hospitals in Beijing and provincial capitals, you can see a wider world and learn more knowledge, but the internship fees are more, and the chance of staying and getting employment is relatively low; county-level hospitals cannot see the world, but the cost Low, more chances to take action, higher chance of staying. Some specialized hospitals, although they do not have a full range of departments, can become talents urgently needed by the society if they learn the specialized business well. In my class, a student went to a children's hospital for an internship. This year when he was applying for a job, he was allowed by the municipal hospital to participate in the recruitment process. The key to choosing an internship hospital depends on which type of hospital you plan to choose for employment in the future.
For example, for secondary vocational students, the main places for future employment are community hospitals and county-level hospitals. Instead of going to large hospitals above the provincial level for internships, it is better to go to hospitals below the county level for internships. Last year, a student from my five-year college class went to a county-level hospital for an internship. While other students were still busy looking for jobs, she had already been recruited by the county-level hospital where she was interning. Already working as a follower. Fourth, be prepared to change roles. To complete the transition from students to hospital employees. The first thing here is to be confident. Don't give up on yourself. Be confident in yourself and don't always compare yourself with interns from other schools or classmates from this school who have higher academic qualifications and better conditions. Nursing is a highly skilled profession. Even if you don't learn the basic theory well in school, you can go to clinical practice, study diligently and train hard in the internship position, you can still master a skill and even excel. Some students are short in stature and have low academic qualifications, so they have low self-esteem. It's not necessary. As long as you position yourself accurately, you can find a place to display your talents. A philosopher said: "Garbage is talent in the wrong place." What's more, you are college students who have gone through systematic training. The key depends on your own understanding of yourself and how to position yourself correctly. I am afraid that my heart is higher than the sky and my skills are not as good as others. The correct approach is to "look up to the stars and keep your feet on the ground." Secondly, we must abide by hospital discipline. It is necessary to change the lax style developed in school or at home, and consciously abide by hospital disciplines and systems. You are not allowed to arrive late or leave early or skip work or be absent from work at will. Thirdly, you must learn to deal with unfamiliar teachers and patients. During the internship period, it is very frequent to change departments, and you have to often come into contact with new faces. During the internship, you also have to break away from the original class and have room and board with new classmates. It is necessary to handle the relationship well with classmates, colleagues, including patients. Finally, pay attention to protecting your own personal safety. When you go out of school, or stay away from your family and teachers, there is no one to remind you and take care of you, so you must protect yourself. Fifth, be prepared to endure hardship and stand hard work. When you go to a hospital for an internship, the work is definitely more tiring than studying at school, and the food and accommodation conditions are generally worse than at school. Be prepared to endure hardships. One is not to have too many fantasies. A student in the secretarial class sent me the following message on the third day after arriving at the internship unit (there were two days of holiday in between): "Teacher Pan: I don’t know that it would be a mistake for me to choose a township internship. In reality, It's so far from what I imagined! Life here is too comfortable and devoid of any challenges. I just want to find a platform to improve my abilities, but the current situation is not as technical as I want. I haven’t had a formal class in a few days. I always feel that my future is bleak. “I told the students, you just arrived at the internship unit and you don’t know anything. How do you know that the job is not challenging? Second, we cannot only do big things and be shy about small things. Some even look down on people who do small things. This is not right. When interns first arrive at the hospital, they must be prepared to start with small things. In particular, you must respect the teacher's arrangements and teachings. Sometimes the things the teacher arranges for you to do may seem small, but they are exercises in basic skills that will be beneficial to your future work. Third, we must not give up when faced with difficulties and choose the easy and avoid the heavy. One of my students went to Haikou for an internship. When he arrived at the hospital, he found that the accommodation conditions were very poor. He was so aggrieved that he cried. But after doing some work, I finally stayed and now I am fine. The hospital wants to keep them employed. A classmate from outside the city was interning in this city. The first trouble he encountered was that he could not understand the local dialect, so he had the idea of ??giving up. I tell students, if this is the case, you can only go back to your hometown to find a job. Because this problem only doesn’t exist in your hometown. Otherwise, wouldn’t there be a problem of not being able to hear the local dialect wherever you go? The fourth is not to be suspicious and picky. Some students, when facing internship units with good conditions, suspect that they have set traps and have evil intentions; when facing internship units with poor conditions, they complain and complain. There are fewer internship units, and there is no reason to compete for fear of failure; there are too many internship units, and there is no choice but to choose what to do. These are all things that should be noted. Sixth, be prepared to be criticized and punished. During the internship, it is normal to be criticized by teachers or punished for mistakes. You must be mentally prepared and able to withstand it. Here, the first is to study diligently and ask questions. Learning means learning the rules. It is our country's tradition to visit a country and ask about its customs. When you go to the hospital, you must seriously participate in the hospital's internship training and learn the hospital's rules. Ask about methods and operating procedures. Don’t pretend to understand or be self-righteous. Try your best, make fewer mistakes, and avoid mistakes. Because of the patients we serve, some mistakes are not allowed to occur. The second is not to avoid conflicts and not to shirk mistakes. If you are wrong, admit it bravely, find out the reason, and correct it in time. The third is to treat criticism correctly.
There should be less sophistry, less complaining, and less conflict, and more self-examination and self-reflection. Leadership criticism is a matter of strict requirements and care. You must have a dull sensitivity and be able to withstand grievances. Seventh, be prepared to smile. Nurses are known as beautiful angels. They must have medical ethics and a kind heart. Have learned how to deal with patients. I personally think that the most important thing is to treat patients sincerely, enthusiastically and lovingly. You must go to internship with a smiling face and treat patients with a smile every day; you must learn to listen to patients and learn to remember patients’ names; you must pay attention to details; you must be diligent with your mouth, hands, and legs, go to the ward to observe more, and communicate more with you. Communicate with patients and take the trouble to provide good service to patients. I gave the students a motto: "If you treat the patient as a devil, you will live in a dark hell; if you treat the patient as a relative, you will live in a warm family." If we can all use this sentence to alert ourselves , and meet the above requirements, you will definitely win the favor and praise of patients. Even if the technique is not proficient enough, patients will be tolerated and understood. Eighth, we must be prepared for future employment. Last year, before the students in our class went for internships, I urged each of them to prepare a "Job Recommendation Letter." I told them that if they are willing to work in the internship unit, they can submit a job application letter to the internship unit after half a year of internship. Even if you do not want to be employed in the internship unit, you can still improve your job application during the internship process to prepare for future job hunting. During the internship, you must pay attention to handling the relationship with hospital leaders and teachers. You can send them messages of greetings and blessings during holidays. During the internship, career planning should be made based on actual conditions and quality improvement.
