Changshi Jingyuan is a famous tourist destination in the cultural landscape of Jinzhong.
The Jingyuan, covering an area of ??more than 120 acres (more than 80,000 square meters), is a place for the Chang family to relax, have fun and cultivate their sentiments. Chang named it Jingyuan, which clearly expressed the owner's pursuit and purpose of building this garden. Quietness is a return to nature, a pursuit of transcendence, and expresses a detached mentality.

Jingyuan was built in the Qianlong and Jiaqing years and completed in the early Guangxu years. During the entire process of garden construction, it was the peak period of the artistic level of gardening in our country, and the gardens formed during this period all reflected a high artistic level. The Chang family, which has strong economic strength and profound cultural heritage, will naturally spare no expense and go all out. Southern style is compact and delicate with different characteristics. Under this premise, the completely different garden styles of the north and the south can be integrated and integrated, making them more humane and achieving the effect of one garden, one realm, one scene, one picture, which will become the most unique and charming sight of Jingyuan. point.
Jingyuan Water System
When it comes to gardens, people will naturally pay attention to water first. Because water is the symbol of aura and the source of beauty. The water in Jingyuan can be roughly divided into three parts: from east to west, from the low mooring bank, several clear springs tumble down and pour into the small pool with stacked stone banks; because of its gurgling sound, The crystal clear bottom reminds people of the famous poem "The Story of Xiaoshitan" written by the great poet Liu Zongyuan of the Tang Dynasty, so this lake has an emotive name: Xiaoshitan. The north bank of the pool is connected to a winding stream called Quxi. It means that the literati of the Jin and Jin Dynasties hated the hustle and bustle, loved natural landscapes, and often entertained themselves by drinking wine from the meandering water. This lake of more than ten acres connected to the west end of Quxi is Zhaoyu Lake, the main feature of the Jingyuan water system. Although Zhaoyu Lake is not big, it has a very long history. It is said that when Dayu controlled the floods, there was a story about opening the mouth of Lingshi and vacating Jinyang Lake in Jinzhong, Shanxi. In fact, during the period of Dayu, the place name Jinyang did not exist; and the Jinzhong Basin at that time was still a vast ocean, named Zhuyu Qize; the center was in the current Qixian area. After Yu withdrew the water, large and small lakes were left on the land in Jinzhong. Later, some became fertile fields, some became depressions, and some remained lakes. (For example, Jinyang Lake in the southwest of Taiyuan City) The central area of ??Changjia Manor used to be filled with water all year round and was covered with reeds and aquatic plants. Because it is one of the few remaining waters in Yu Qize, people still habitually call it "Jinyang Lake". It is Zhaoyu Lake.
In the Jingyuan water system, in addition to the self-contained Xiaoshitan, Quxi, and Zhaoyu Lake, there are also three independent small pools embedded in the garden, namely the pen-washing pool in the Yayuan, The Fangzheng Pond in Shiyunxuan Academy and the Small Lotus Pond outside the Garden.
