[translation] A generous person can always be kind to himself and others at the same time, which requires richness everywhere; A person with weak desire is not only mean to himself everywhere, but also mean to others everywhere, so everything seems dull. It can be seen that as a truly cultivated person, the preferences of daily life should not be excessively extravagant and exquisite, nor should they be excessively boring.
there are many creatures in the dirty land, and there are often no fish in the clean water. Therefore, the gentleman should keep the amount of dirt; Don't walk alone in a clean way.
polluted land is often the best soil for biological growth, but there is no fish and shrimp growing in crystal clear water. A truly virtuous gentleman should have the measure of accommodating others' shortcomings and forgiving others' faults, and must not pretend to be lofty and narcissistic.
when the container is full, it is empty when it is full. Therefore, a gentleman would rather live in all places, and he would rather live in the absence of places.
[translation] The casket will be overturned because it is full of water, and it will be saved because it is empty. Therefore, a gentleman would rather do nothing than be competitive, and would rather hold on to the incomplete and not be satisfactory.
those who haven't uprooted their famous roots will always fall into love if they despise a thousand times and take a gourd ladle; Those who are not polite will benefit the whole world, but they will eventually be left with skills.
[Translation] If the idea of fame and fortune is not eradicated from the heart, even if you look down on wealth and are willing to be poor, you will still be tempted by fame and fortune in the world. A person whose external influence can't be resolved by his own righteousness, even if his grace is all over the world, will become an unnecessary trick in the end.
the mind and body are bright, and there is a blue sky in the dark room; Thoughts are dark, and there are spectres in the daytime.
[translation] If you are open-minded, even in a dark place, it is just like under a clear sky; If your heart is full of evil, you will run into evil spirits even in broad daylight.
it's better to keep what you have done than to do what you have not done; It is better to prevent future wrongs than to regret the past.
[translation] It is better to maintain the completed career than to plan the uncertain career; Instead of regretting past mistakes, it is better to prevent them from repeating.
the weather should be broad, not wild; Be careful in your mind, not locked in crumbs; Taste should be diluted, not dried up; Conduct should be strict, not fierce.
[translation] A person's mind should be broad-minded, but not too broad-minded; Thinking should be comprehensive, but not too messy; Interest should be elegant and light, but not too monotonous and boring; Moral integrity should be rigorous and clear, but not too paranoid and intense.
think clearly in silence and see the true body of the heart; In leisure, the weather is calm, and the real machine of knowing the heart; In the light, the interest is washed away, and the heart is really delicious. There is no such thing as observing the heart and proving the Tao.
[translation] When you are calm, your mind is clear and pure, and you can see the true source of your mind. When you are free, you are comfortable and carefree, and you can discover the real mystery in your heart; When you are weak, you are modest and calm, and you can appreciate the real fun in your heart. There are no better ways to gain insight into the heart to realize the truth between heaven and earth.
it's better to be blessed with little things, but it's worse to be worried. Only those who suffer will know that less things are bliss; Only those who are fair-minded will know that it is a disaster to worry too much.
The greatest happiness in life is to be carefree, and the greatest disaster is to be suspicious. Only those who work hard and busy all day know the happiness of being idle; Only a calm person knows the consequences of being suspicious.
This mind is always perfect, and there is no defect in the world; This heart is often lenient, and there is no danger in the world.
[translation] If you feel that the world is perfect in your heart, then there is no defect in this world; If everyone's heart is generous and just, then there will be no intrigue in this world.
all these will benefit people for life.
