Churchill was one of the "Big Three" (Roosevelt, Churchill, Stalin) of the Anti-Fascist Alliance in World War II. He led the British people to win World War II and was the leader of the World Anti-Fascist Alliance. A staunch organizer and promoter, he is considered one of the most important political leaders of the 20th century.
Churchill participated in the prime ministerial campaign three times and served as the British Prime Minister twice between 1940-1945 and 1951-1955. To this day, Churchill is still regarded by most British people as the greatest prime minister in British history.
Churchill was a politician, historian, painter, orator, writer, journalist and many other people. He was the only great politician in the world to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. He won the 1953 Nobel Prize for Literature for "The Unnecessary War" and is the author of "Memoirs of the Second World War" and "A History of the English-speaking Peoples". In addition, Churchill was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. In a 2002 BBC survey called "The 100 Greatest Britons", Churchill was selected as the greatest Briton of all time.
Why did Churchill become the greatest Prime Minister in British history? There is no doubt that this must be inseparable from his leading the British people to victory in the anti-fascist war. However, in addition to his indispensable achievements in World War II, his personal charm (character, high integrity, no words of praise can be overstated) are also a plus.
In 1945, Italy and Germany had surrendered, World War II was about to end, and the British War Cabinet must also be disbanded. So Churchill voluntarily resigned and participated in the general election. Churchill was full of confidence and believed that he would be successfully elected based on his merits in the war. The result was a disastrous defeat in the general election, and Labor leader Clement Attlee was eventually elected Prime Minister.
Although Churchill lost the election, his words and deeds after his failure in the election once again showed his greatness. Of course, this starts with the conversation between Churchill and Stalin:
It turns out that after Stalin learned that Churchill had lost the election, he said to Churchill, "The British people are so ungrateful. It was you, Prime Minister, who saved them from fascism." You were saved from the flames of war, and now they have abandoned you.”
But Churchill said a very classic sentence in front of Stalin. It was this sentence that showed Churchill's greatness.
“Ingratitude to great men is the mark of a great nation.” Churchill quoted this famous saying from the ancient Greek writer Plutarch to answer Stalin’s question.
Not only did Churchill have no complaints about the people who "betrayed" him, but he believed that this was a sign of a great nation. From this we can see Churchill’s high integrity.
Because of this, Churchill became the greatest prime minister in British history.
