Life is limited, knowledge is infinite, and dealing with infinity with limitation will put you in a dilemma. There seems to be some contradiction between Zhuangzi's view of learning and Xunzi's view of learning, but on reflection, they can achieve a strange harmony. If we want to "learn what we can't do" and "be safe when there is no limit", we need to find a fulcrum that can carry the two, or a bridge that connects them. What will the fulcrum be? Xunzi taught us how to be a man. His old man was very compassionate and patient. From the phenomena and events between heaven and earth to the outlines of Poetry, Book, Rite, Music and Spring and Autumn Annals, the simple examples were given to tell us a simple truth: "This is how a man should be". But why is our life fading? Why do we "drift away" from the main road? Because we forget what we should do, "be knowledgeable and learn from Japan and save ourselves."
Because of people's fundamental worries, greed, anger and stupidity, our minds are blinded, and we turn a blind eye to the natural laws displayed by all things in the world, but we turn a deaf ear to the way of being a man advocated by saints. It's hard to be a "human", but in "Encouraging Learning", Xunzi is not only satisfied with being a "human", because youth is better than blue, and how to become a "sage" is his earnest hope for us. If people surpass themselves, they will enter the realm of "saints". To surpass themselves is not to be detached from things, but to be extremely humble and think that they are nothing. Xunzi's description of the realm of saints can't be found in the whole book "Encouraging Learning", but he has pointed out the only way to become a "sage" for us. At the beginning, he mentioned that "learning is impossible"!
