A gentleman and a Taoist prohibit others from doing what they say, so what they say must be mindful of its consequences, and what they do must be based on their consequences, so the people will be cautious in their words and cautious in their actions.
Analysis: Even if you can say nine out of ten sentences correctly, no one may praise you, but if you say one wrong sentence, you will be criticized one after another; even if you make nine out of ten strategies, you may not succeed. Credit goes to you, but as long as there is one failure, complaints and accusations will come one after another. Therefore, a gentleman would rather maintain a taciturn attitude, never be impulsive and impatient, would rather appear clumsy in doing things, and never act smart and appear superior to others.
