Socrates' famous words about education
You should be able to understand "education is not indoctrination" in the first half of this sentence. We have heard it many times. The second half of this sentence "to light a flame" represents an act, an artistic conception, and is not really for lighting. Igniting the flame is the process of making things from silence to prosperity, the way from darkness to light, and the inspiration and guidance. So the meaning of this sentence is that education should not simply instill knowledge into others, but should guide others to think and inspire others to learn. The whole sentence also has its counterpart in China: It is better to teach people to fish than to teach them to fish. Give someone something and let him know how to get it. That's probably what it means.
