Pablo Neruda (19O4~1973) Chilean poet
I like that you are silent
I like that you are silent , as if you disappeared,
You listen to me from a distance, but my voice cannot touch you.
It seems like your eyes have flown away,
Like a kiss, sealing your mouth.
As all things fill my soul,
You emerge from all things and fill my soul.
You are like my soul, a dream butterfly,
You are like the word melancholy.
I like that you are silent, as if you are far away.
You sound like you are lamenting, a butterfly mourning like a dove.
You hear me from afar, my voice cannot reach you;
Let me be silent in your silence.
And let me speak to you through your silence,
Your silence is as bright as a lamp and as simple as a ring.
You are like the night, with silence and stars.
Your silence is the silence of the stars, distant and bright.
I like you to be silent: as if you have disappeared,
Distant and sad, as if you are dead.
At that time, one word and one smile were enough.
And I will feel happy, happy because it is not true.
