since I want to know about the five yin, I will choose other notes to explain to you.

five yin is also called five aggregates

what is "five aggregates"? In other words, "five aggregates" means "body and mind", and "five aggregates" include color, acceptance, thinking, behavior and knowledge; "Yun" means "Yun set" and "product set". We sentient beings regard this body as "one" thing, and think that this thing is an inseparable whole, which is called "one phase" in the Diamond Sutra, which means "one big set and inseparable". However, the Buddha's eyes are illuminated with wisdom, and the view of this body is not an inseparable whole, but can be analyzed. The simplest way is to divide it into "body" and "mind". The subdivision of body and mind is the "five aggregates", that is, the color is subject to thinking and understanding. The "color" mentioned here is "body", and the other four connotations are "heart". The combination of body and mind or five elements is "I" or "my appearance" (my appearance and appearance). The last time I came back to the United States, I met a lecturer from Tamkang University on the plane, sitting next to me. He gave up his university teaching position for more than five years and wanted to study in the United States. He chatted with me, and he said, "I think the most important thing for us is to affirm ourselves." This is a very popular and "thoughtful" expression. I said, "Good! Then how do you define' self'? " Therefore, we are all like this: we are in a daze, vague, and even have only a vague impression or concept of the most intimate word "I". However, as long as the word "self" is mentioned, it will feel solemn and sacred. If we say "affirming ourselves", it will be as inviolable as the "Magna Carta". But if you ask, "What is self?" But he can't tell you why! At that time, I asked the lecturer, "What do you mean by" I "? Or do you mean' heart'? Or "body and mind" together? If you mean' body', body-thoughts are changing, impermanent! If you mean' heart', and the heart is impermanent and fast, you can't find an entity in between. When you say' I', if you refer to the combination of body and mind; Since the separation of body and mind is impermanent and rapid, the combination of two impermanent things is impermanent-not impermanence plus impermanence equals constancy. It must be' constant' to have the entity available, and since it is impermanent, there is no entity available. Therefore, in the body, or mind, or body and mind together, there is no entity to get, and there is no' I' to get, because I can't stop thinking about it. " I'll talk about this in detail later, because it has something to do with "all five aggregates are empty". In fact, I was telling him the meaning of "all five aggregates are empty" in another language at that time. Although he didn't understand it, he also made a legal connection.

Here's another metaphor for "one in one": Almost everyone drives a car in America, but not everyone is very knowledgeable about cars. At least for me, it's just a car: when the hood is opened, it's all machines, and I don't know what that part is for; I don't know which part is broken. Anyway, a car is a car-"car" is an "integral concept" and "inseparable" to me. I really don't know the detailed distinction inside. I only have a vague and abstract general concept: "car". However, for a mechanic, a car is not an "abstract" concept, but a very "concrete" thing, and it is very real, even as if it were a living thing. For him, what part of the car is used for is clear, so he opens the hood, which is the engine, which is the distributor, and which is the generator ... It is clear at a glance; If there is a wrong sound in one part, he will know what is wrong as soon as he listens. However, for the average person, it probably makes no difference. As for ourselves, this "big machine"-this "meat cart"-is the same. We are also vague, and we don't know where its parts are and how it works. Only by observing it with Buddha's wisdom can we have a deep understanding of this body and mind. Observing from Buddha's wisdom, we know that this body is not an inseparable whole, not only that, but also we can clearly distinguish and understand the differences and connections between body and mind, and even know that, in terms of function, this "mind" can be analyzed into four parts: "receiving, thinking, acting and knowing", and further it can be divided into "eight senses" and even "five hundred methods" Therefore, the so-called "I" can be divided into two methods: "color" (body) and "mind", that is, two "collections" of material and spirit, and then it can be divided into five collections (five aggregates) in detail; Body is "color accumulation", and color accumulation can be divided into four parts and six parts; The mind can be divided into "receiving, thinking, doing and knowing", as mentioned above. Why is the "heart" divided into four aggregates? Because of the role of the heart, the most important thing is these four; As a matter of fact, the noumenon of the heart is knowledge, and the three meanings of receiving, thinking and doing are the functions of the heart. Furthermore, among the various functions of the heart, the most intimate one is receiving (feeling): because of receiving, we are bitter and happy. If you don't suffer, there is no bitterness; If you can achieve no bitterness and joy, you will be relieved-you don't have to be relieved. Because since there is no bitterness and joy, what should I get rid of? Therefore, in all mental actions (the role of the heart), "receiving" is the most important. What are we all striving for all our lives? It is for the so-called "pursuit of happiness" that ordinary people pursue happiness, and even the US Constitution stipulates that "everyone has the freedom to pursue happiness"; Even the Greek Stoic philosopher said: "Happiness is the greatest good"; Even in Buddhism, the so-called "happiness from suffering" still emphasizes the pursuit of happiness, but the "happiness" mentioned by Buddha is different from that mentioned by ordinary people and heretics in the world, although the name is the same, but the meaning is different; Buddha's happiness refers to "Nirvana" and "Bodhi", not the pleasure of eating, sleeping, playing and so on. Because of the relationship of "Perception", there are all kinds of feelings. "Suffering" can be divided into three types: suffering, being happy, and not suffering. Therefore, Buddhism is very subtle, delicate and the most complicated. It is as complicated as you want, so complicated that you can't escape. What is "suffering"? What goes against your feelings is called suffering, and if a certain feeling goes against your mind, it will be a kind of "suffering"; What suits your wishes is called pleasure (pleasure): there is also a Neutral reception, which is not bitter and not happy, and it is translated into "giving up", that is, there is a feeling that is not bitter or happy, which is called "not bitter and not happy". Ordinary people have all kinds of pursuits in order to get all kinds of "acceptance" (which is "accepted" by me), but how did this "acceptance" come from? "Suffering" comes from "thinking"-as the saying goes: "All" suffering "comes from" thinking ":in a certain situation, if you think hard, you will suffer; If you think about pleasure, you will get pleasure. Therefore, "everything is born of thought", so "reception" comes from "thinking". For example: a painting, I saw it, and I thought, "Hmm! This painting looks very pleasant. If I have this kind of "happy thinking", I will have a "happy feeling", so I will get a "happy feeling" from this. There is another situation that I feel very bitter. For example, I used to like music, even some Rock and Roll (some, not all)-when I heard those music before, I would have a "happy dream" and feel very happy, but now if I hear Rock and Roll, I just feel very noisy, and I will have a "bitter dream". You can also have "happy thoughts", so you can have happy feelings-for the same thing, it seems to be a different feeling, which shows that "receiving" comes from "thinking". It's not even just Rock and Roll. I used to like almost all the music. In the past, because I liked it, I had all kinds of happy thoughts and "happy thoughts", so I got all kinds of happiness. Sometimes, I will ignore music when I hear it, so there is nothing bitter and happy about that music for me, so I am born with "no pain and no joy" Secondly, no matter how much you like music, if you sit still and play the piano next door loudly, then the sound of the piano will become a kind of pain for you! So everything is born of thinking, and how is thinking born? All "thinking" is born of "doing".

what is a line? Behavior is Mental Operation Functioning, and all "actions of the mind" are called "behaviors". In other words, all "actions of the mind" are called "behaviors". As we said before, receiving, thinking and acting are all "uses" of the mind (or body), but in fact, all "actions of the mind" only need one. Therefore, strictly speaking, the mental method in the five elements should be covered by only two elements, namely, knowledge is the body of the mind, and line is the use of the mind. Knowledge and line have completely covered the body and use of the mind, but why should we mark "receiving" and "thinking" in particular? Because "receiving" and "thinking" are most related to our daily life from the perspective of worldly laws (vulgar truths), and they also have a pivotal position in the life and death of ordinary people; From the perspective of earthly law, "receiving" and "thinking" are also most related to our practice, life and death, and liberation. In fact, among the five hundred methods, all mental methods, except knowledge, are all included in this "line implication", which can also be divided into "the heart should act accordingly" and "the heart should not act accordingly"-in fact, "the heart should act accordingly" and "the heart should not act accordingly" are also taken by the "line implication", so they are all the functions of the heart. Now let's take a look at the five hundred methods table in the handout just distributed. If you really want to understand the so-called "five aggregates", you must understand these five hundred methods; In other words, if you don't understand these hundred laws, you can't really understand the "five aggregates".

when I was studying hard, I had a hard time trying to solve the word "line" in "thinking and knowing". I looked for information everywhere, looked up everywhere and asked everywhere, but I couldn't find out why. Bodhisattva was merciful, and finally I made it clear. What is the "five hundred laws"? Five hundred laws are "all laws"-all laws "in the world" and "out of the world" are always called "all laws". And "all laws" include "the law of doing something" and "the law of doing nothing", and "the law of doing something" is the law of the world, and the law of doing nothing is the so-called law of leaving the world. The promising methods in the world include: first, the mind method, second, the mind ownership method, third, the color method, and fourth, the mind is not corresponding.

first, the mental method refers to the eight senses. Our mind and body can be divided into eight areas, or eight functions and levels, namely, eyes, ears, nose, tongue and body. These five senses are sensory, and recognition is generated by the function of their perception, which becomes eye knowledge, ear knowledge, nose knowledge, tongue knowledge and body knowledge. These five kinds of knowledge are called "the first five senses". The sixth knowledge is consciousness, the seventh knowledge is the last knowledge, and the eighth knowledge is Arya knowledge. Arya knowledge is the final mind-body, from which the most fundamental mind-body is born. The so-called "mental method" is also "mental knowledge" (mental body), also known as "king of mind"

second, there are fifty-one methods of mind ownership-* * *, which are "belonging to" and "mind method", so they are called "mind ownership method"; Why do you say "belonging to"? Because these methods belong to the function of "mind body", they are called "mind ownership". For example, "light" belongs to the function of "lamp" and is called "light" (or "light of lamp"). If we use five connotations to represent "five positions", then: the mental method is "knowledge connotation", the mental method is "line connotation", the color method is "color connotation", and the corresponding mental methods are also "line connotation"; And "receiving" and "thinking" are in the first "all-around" of all mental laws-"touching, making intentions, receiving, thinking and thinking", so we can know that "receiving" and "thinking" belong to all mental laws, so they are also taken by "doing". Although you can't find the word "Xing Yun" in "Five Hundred Methods" (because "Five Yun" and "Hundred Methods" are two different classifications), in fact "Xing Yun" includes the second method of "Mind Ownership" and the fourth method of "Mind Inconsistency", that is, fifty-one method plus twenty-four methods, which is totally * * * seventy-five. Suffering and thinking are just a "small method" under "doing"-although it is small, it affects the life and death and nirvana of all beings. Because all beings are greedy for illusory feelings, they will have various pursuits: pursuing the joy of "receiving" in the eyes, pursuing the joy of "receiving" in the ears and pursuing the nose. Although "receiving" is the main cause of life and death of all beings, it is already at the end of the whole mind, so it also belongs to "fruit"; Then, let's get to the bottom of this, and try to find out: what is the "cause" before this "result"? Above "receiving" is "thinking"-"receiving" is born of "thinking". And how did "thinking" come from? "Thinking" belongs to "behavior" (mental behavior), that is, behavior implication. From this, we can know that "five hundred laws" is actually a more detailed exposition and analysis of "five aggregates" There is a treatise called "Mahayana and Guang Wu Yun Lun", which explains the "Hundred Dharmas" with five Yun, which is worth studying. Then what is "hundred methods"? Hundred Dharmas are more than a thousand Dharmas mentioned by Maitreya Bodhisattva in The Yoga Teacher's Theory of Land, and the Buddha simplified them into one hundred Dharmas, which are the five hundred Dharmas: because more than a thousand Dharmas are too many for ordinary people to understand, realize and accept. We are now in the end of the French era, and everyone is living in the pure land. What is the purpose of living in the pure land? It is said in the sutra that when the flowers bloom and see the Buddha's "enlightenment without life", you will be able to prove that "all the methods are clear", that is, at that time, you will truly realize all the methods. In addition, there is another way to realize all the ways: you can make a living, get close to Maitreya Bodhisattva, and ask his old man to teach you five hundred ways, which is closer to the pure land, but some people are afraid, because the pure land is in the six desires of our mother-in-law's world, so close, and it is too troublesome to come down again in the future.
