Ibsen wrote 25 plays and some poems throughout his life. Most of the early plays took Nordic folklore and Norwegian history as their themes, and were full of patriotism and romanticism. "The Warriors of Helgeland", published in 1858, is Norway's first national realist drama. In the 1970s, he wrote more than 10 social issue dramas, such as "Pillars of Society", "Enemy of the People", and "Ghosts".
