When it comes to Emperor Yangdi, no one has a good impression. As early as in junior high school textbooks, we knew that the demise of the Sui Dynasty was entirely caused by Emperor Yangdi's death. Emperor Wendi was frugal all his life, but he met a prodigal son, who killed his father and humiliated his mother. What Emperor Yangdi did was no different from that of Shang Zhouwang in those days, which was even more hateful. And far beyond the national strength of the Sui Dynasty, but Emperor Yangdi was so capricious that he used such a huge amount of people and financial resources to build the Grand Canal after fighting everywhere, which was really self-destructive. Sure enough, many ordinary people could not stand the heavy labor and rose up to revolt. Later, Emperor Yangdi was also killed by his most trusted courtier Yu Wenhuaji. After Chang 'an was breached by Li Yuan, the Sui Dynasty also fell.
But there is another way to tell the story, that is, Emperor Yangdi was deliberately discredited by the Tang Dynasty because of his great achievements, and he usurped the name for his rebellion. Emperor Yangdi was a young British master, and his military ability and ability to govern the country were outstanding, which was also the main reason why Emperor Emperor Wen of Sui of Sui Dynasty abolished Prince Yang Yong and set up Yang Guang at that time. Of course, Yang Guang himself also had many shortcomings and deficiencies that could determine his own destiny. Get quick success and instant benefit, so do the three levies of Korea and the construction of the Grand Canal. However, this does not mean that Emperor Yangdi is a fatuous and incompetent person. No one with brains can do such a ridiculous thing to open up a Grand Canal in order to see flowers. Therefore, the real intention of Emperor Yangdi to open up the Grand Canal at that time was not just to satisfy his own selfish desires, but to completely solve the problem of impassable water transportation between the north and the south.
The opening of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal was indeed a blessing for the people, but it caused people's resentment at that time. The heavy labor made the people miserable, but today we still use the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, while Emperor Yangdi Yang Guang has been blamed for the ages. Yang Guang is not unaware of the consequences of doing this, but according to Yang Guang's temper, what can he do is nothing but leave a stigma, while his own achievements are engraved on it. Of course, Yang Guang, Emperor Yangdi, had many remarkable political initiatives, such as opening the imperial examination, which really influenced the examination system in China for more than 1 years. For the first time, it really broke the shackles of talent selection with no top grade and no nobility.
But history never gives the losers a chance to explain. After the establishment of the Tang Dynasty, Li Yuan deliberately discredited Emperor Yangdi in order to vindicate his dynasty. In fact, posthumous title, who was given the title of Emperor Yangdi by the royal family of the Sui Dynasty, was Emperor Sui Ming, but the Li family gave Yang Guang the title of "Yang" and vilified Yang Guang's achievements. However, everyone forgot that Yang Guang devoted all his life to governing the country and opening the Grand Canal. When he died, he didn't build a mausoleum for himself. After being forced to die, he had to be buried hastily.
