Jizha’s Integrity Story

Jizha of the Zhou Dynasty was the son of the king of Wu. Once, Jizha passed by Xu State when he was on a mission to Lu State, so he went to pay a visit to Xu Jun. As soon as Xu Jun saw Jizha, he was moved by his temperament and felt very kind in his heart. Xu Junmo looked at Ji Zha's dignified and decent appearance and dress. Suddenly, he was deeply attracted by a sword with auspicious light flashing around his waist. In ancient times, swords were a kind of decoration and also represented a kind of etiquette. Whether they are ministers or generals, they usually wear a sword.

Ji Zha's sword is very impressive. It is carefully conceived and has a gentle shape. Several gems are embedded in it, making it elegant yet solemn. Only a person of Yanling Jizi's temperament is worthy of this sword. Although Xu Jun liked it in his heart, he was embarrassed to express it. He just kept looking at it with bright eyes. Jizha saw this and thought to himself: After I finish my work, I must come back and give this sword to Xu Jun. In order to complete his mission as an envoy, Jizha was unable to send him off for the time being.

When Ji Zi came to Xu Jun's tomb, he felt unspeakable sadness and sentimentality in his heart. He looked at the desolate sky, hung the long sword on the tree, and silently prayed in his heart: "Although you have gone, the promise I once had in my heart will always be there. I hope your spirit in heaven, When looking at this tree from afar, I will still remember the time when I said goodbye to you with this long sword." He bowed to the tombstone silently, and then turned away.

Ji Zha’s followers asked him very puzzledly: Mr. Xu has passed away. What’s the use of hanging this sword here? Ji Zha said: Although he has passed away, my sword is still there. There was a commitment to him in my heart. Xu Jun liked this sword very much, and I thought to myself that I must give it to him when I come back. What a gentleman values ??is honesty and morality. How could he abandon the trust and righteousness that a man should have and abandon his original intention just because of his death?
