The Story of Edison

Edison only attended elementary school for three months in his life. His knowledge was obtained through his mother's teaching and self-study. His success should be attributed to his mother's understanding and patient teachings from an early age. Edison, who was originally considered an imbecile, became a world-famous "invention king" when he grew up.

Edison has been curious about many things since he was a child, and he likes to experiment until he understands the truth. When he grew up, he devoted himself to research and invention based on his interests in this area. He established a laboratory in New Jersey and invented more than two thousand things in his lifetime, including the electric light, the telegraph, the phonograph, the movie player, the magnetic separator, the crusher, and so on. Edison's strong research spirit enabled him to make significant contributions to improving human life style.

"Waste, the greatest waste is time." Edison often said to his assistant. "Life is too short, you have to think of more ways to do more things with less time."

One day, Edison was working in the laboratory, and he handed his assistant an empty Glass bulb, said: "You measure the capacity of the bulb." He lowered his head to work again.

After a long time, he asked: "What's the capacity?" He didn't hear the answer. He turned around and saw the assistant holding a soft ruler to measure the circumference and slope of the light bulb, and took the measured number. He leaned over the table and calculated. He said: "Time, time, why does it take so much time?" Edison came over, picked up the empty light bulb, filled it with water, handed it to the assistant, and said: "Pour the water inside into the measuring cup, immediately Tell me its capacity."

The assistant immediately read out the number.

Edison said: "This is such an easy measurement method. It is accurate and saves time. How could you not think of it? If you still calculate it, wouldn't it be a waste of time?"

The assistant blushed.

Edison murmured: "Life is too short, too short. Save time and do more things!"

Edison was a poor worker before he became famous. Once, his old friend met him on the street and said with concern: "The coat you are wearing is too worn out. You should get a new one."

"It will come in handy. No one knows me in New York?" Edison replied nonchalantly.

A few years later, Edison became a great inventor.

One day, Edison met that friend again on the streets of New York. "Oh," the friend exclaimed, "Why are you still wearing this shabby coat? This time, you have to get a new one anyway!"

"Is it useful?" Everyone here already knows me." Edison still replied nonchalantly.

Darwin’s Story

When Darwin was a child, he went to the garden with his mother to cultivate soil for a small tree. Mom said: "Soil is a treasure. Small trees can grow only with soil. Don't underestimate the soil. It is the grass that grows and fattens the cattle and sheep, so that we have milk to drink and meat to eat. It is the soil that grows the grass." Only with wheat and cotton can we have food and clothing."

Darwin asked: "Mom, can puppies grow from that soil?"

"No!" Mom said with a smile, "Puppies are born from mother dogs, not from the soil."

Darwin asked again: "I was born from my mother. Grandma, right?"

"Yes! All of them were born to his mother."

"Who was the earliest mother?" /p>

"It's God!"

"Who gave birth to God?"

Mom couldn't answer. She said to Darwin: "Child, there are many things in the world that are mysteries to us. You can grow up like a small tree. These mysteries are waiting for you to solve!"

Darwin Since childhood, I have loved flowers, trees, birds, insects, and fish. After going to school, he still maintained a strong interest in nature. He rode horses, hunted, fished, collected minerals, caught insects, and went into the woods to observe the habits of birds. For Darwin, the entire world was a big question mark, and there were too many things to explore and think about. He often observes and meditates, even forgetting the danger. Once, Darwin was walking on an ancient castle and fell into deep thought as usual. He walked slowly and absently, then suddenly missed his step and fell from the battlement. At this time, Darwin was very conscious and still thinking. He recalled: "In the moment of this sudden fall, an astonishing number of thoughts flashed through my mind. All of this seemed to take a considerable amount of time, just like every thought proposed by physiologists. The statement is inconsistent." This false alarm turned out to be a rare experiment for him.

Newton’s Story

There are many famous scientists in the world whose families are poor. They have all fought tenaciously against difficult circumstances on their way to success.

The situation of Newton's boyhood

is also very pitiful.

Newton was born in the family of an ordinary farmer in England in 1642. Shortly before Newton was born, his father died. His mother remarried when he was two years old. When Newton was fourteen years old, his stepfather unfortunately passed away and his mother returned to his hometown. Newton was forced to drop out of school and go home to help his mother farm. His mother wanted to train him to make a living independently and wanted him to engage in the business of agricultural products.

How reluctant a diligent and studious child is to leave his beloved school! He cried sadly several times, but his mother never changed her mind. In the end, he had to study business according to his mother's wishes. Every morning, he and an old servant went to a big town more than ten miles away to do business. Newton didn't like doing business very much. He entrusted all matters to his old servant

while he secretly went to a place to study.

As time passed, Newton became more and more disgusted with doing business, and all he liked in his heart was reading. Later, Newton simply stopped going to the town to do business and only asked the old servant to go alone. Afraid that his family would find out, he went out with his old servant every day, stopping halfway and reading under a fence. Whenever the old servant comes back in the afternoon, we go home together.

In this way, day after day, the reading life under the fence is endlessly enjoyable. One day, he was reading happily under the fence when he happened to be seen by his uncle who was passing by. When the uncle saw this scene, he was very angry. He loudly scolded him for not doing his job properly and snatched Newton's book away. When his uncle saw that what he was reading was a mathematics book with various symbols drawn on it, he was deeply moved. The uncle hugged Newton and said excitedly: "Son, just develop according to your ambition. Your right path should be to study."

After returning home, the uncle tried his best to persuade Newton's mother to let Newton Newton gave up business and went to school. With the help of his uncle, Newton returned to school as he wished.

The Story of Archimedes

Because Archimedes understood the principle of leverage, he said the seemingly crazy famous saying "Give me a fulcrum and I can lift the earth" . The biggest difference between Archimedes and the scholars of the Greek classical era is that he not only "speaks" but also "practices". Because he understood the principle of levers, he made a pulley block and easily pulled a large ship from the sea into the port, leaving King Hiron II of Syracuse stunned.

Hiron II asked someone to make a crown of pure gold. After it was made, he felt that it was not that heavy. He suspected that the goldsmith had adulterated it, but there was no way to confirm it without destroying the crown. Its true or false. The king gave this task to the extremely clever Archimedes. It is said that Archimedes thought hard for a long time, but he couldn't find the vital point, and finally came up with a solution while taking a bath in the public bathhouse. The water in the bathtub was too full, and as soon as his body entered the bathtub, a lot of water overflowed. He was just about to sigh at the waste of water, but suddenly he remembered the method of identifying the crown. He shouted: "Eureka (I found it)" and ran home naked. Today, a world-wide invention fair is named after this phrase "Eureka".
