The Source of the Four Sacred Hearts is a medical book written by Huang Yuanyu in the Qing Dynasty in 1753. Huang Yuanyu regarded Huangdi, Qibo, Qinyueren, and Zhang Zhongjing as the "Four Sages of Medicine". "The Source of the Four Sages" elucidated the Nei Jing, Difficult Classic, Treatise on Febrile Diseases, and Synopsis of the Golden Chamber. Yunyi is a comprehensive work including the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine and some clinical medicine.
He attaches great importance to the proper rise and fall of Qi in the spleen and stomach. He pointed out: "Man and heaven and earth are intertwined. Yin and Yang are the foundation, and there is ancestral Qi in love. The ancestral Qi is the Tai Chi of man." "The ancestral Qi contains Yin and Yang, and the space between Yin and Yang is called the middle Qi. Earth is divided into Wu and Ji. If the middle Qi turns to the left, it is Ji Earth. If the middle Qi turns to the right, it is Wu Earth. Wu Earth is the stomach, and Ji Earth is the spleen. "
He believes that the internal Qi is the spleen. The ascending and descending functions of qi depend on the middle qi. Therefore, "the rule of middle qi" is advocated. He believes that dampness and cold are important factors in the onset and pathogenesis of many diseases. Therefore, treatment focuses on "middle earth", and prescriptions are often based on draining water and replenishing fire, supporting yang and suppressing yin. He pointed out that all diseases in the four dimensions are caused by the central Qi. The middle Qi is the machine that harmonizes water and fire, and the axis that raises and lowers metal and wood. Taoists call it Huang Po.
