Devadatta was the cousin of the Buddha. He specialized in opposing the Buddha. It could be said that he was a professional in opposing the Buddha. He never succeeded and was never surpassed. He broke the harmony of the monks, shed the blood of the Buddha's body, and sang many negative tunes. Therefore, he fell into the Abi Hell.

In fact, Devadatta has been the teacher of Sakyamuni Buddha for many lives and a great Bodhisattva. In order to help the Buddha attain enlightenment quickly, ordinary people around him appeared in every life to create all kinds of hardships for the Buddha, to train the Buddha and help him attain enlightenment as soon as possible. Therefore, Devadatta is not only the teacher of Buddha, but also the teacher of Buddha’s disciples. He is also the future King of Heaven Tathagata who will be remembered as the Buddha.

The Buddha was grateful for his teacher’s training and sent Venerable Ananda to hell to visit Devadatta.

Ananda asked: The Tathagata sent me to inquire. Is the pain unbearable?
