History of Weft Knitting in China
1896, China began to produce weft knitted fabrics such as sweaters. Since then, the development of weft knitting technology has been very slow. Before the First World War, the knitting industry in China was in its infancy, and there were only a handful of knitting factories all over the country, and the knitwear market was still occupied by imported products. With the outbreak of World War II, the import of foreign goods decreased, and the knitting industry in China developed. China industrialists are preparing to set up knitting mills, which have greatly improved their production capacity and expanded their varieties. Guangzhou Huaxing Weaving Corporation was established in 1907, and Jiangsu Songjiang Shoes and Socks Factory was established in 19 10, producing socks, sweaters and other products. 19 12 Tianjin jiezu foreign firm was established to produce socks. During this period, China's knitting industry equipment was obsolete, hand-cranked machines accounted for a considerable proportion, and there were few new electric looms, and most of them were small hand-made workshops of family nature, with low production efficiency and monotonous product varieties. Since 1950s, China has been able to manufacture cotton wool machines, hosiery machines, trolleys and flat knitting machines. In 1970s, we began to design and manufacture jacquard circular knitting machines. 1980, there were about 20,000 circular knitting machines and 24,000 flat knitting machines.
