Palombo participated in the European Youth Championship for the first time with the Italian national youth team in 2004, and then participated in the Athens Olympic Games and won the bronze medal. After the 2006 World Cup, the winning Italian team gave most of the main players a holiday. Players including Palombo, Telic and falcone were also selected for the national team and participated in the friendly match with Croatian team in August 16 of that year. In the World Cup qualifiers, Palombo made five appearances for the Italian team without scoring.
