From "A Free and Responsible Press", in 1947, Henry Luce, the founder of Time magazine, invested US$200,000 to invite one of his personal friends, who was then the president of the University of Chicago. Hutchins, organized a committee of thirteen "impeccably qualified researchers" to compile the book.
