Legal basis: Article 10 of the Regulations on Registration of Household Registration in People's Republic of China (PRC), if a citizen moves out of the jurisdiction of the place where the household registration is located, he or the head of the household shall apply to the household registration authority for registration, obtain a transfer certificate and cancel the household registration before moving out. Article 13 When a citizen moves, he/she shall, within three days in the city and ten days in the countryside, preside over the migration certificate, declare the migration registration to the household registration authority, and hand in the migration certificate. For relocated houses that have been built on the spot, the household registration may not be moved. The relocated households who have been resettled with one-time monetary compensation must move their accounts into their current residence. If they buy a new house or a second-hand house after the demolition, they should also move their hukou to their current residence. If the relocated households rent or stay outside, their accounts will remain at the police station of their original residence.
