More than 4,000 athletes and more than 2,500 coaches and officials from 148 countries and regions participated in the Paralympic Games. This is the largest number of participating countries and regions in the history of the Paralympic Games. In the 11 days of competition, the Beijing Paralympic Games are expected to have 212 competition units in 21 sub-events in 20 sports, with 1,307 competitions, and gold medals in 472 events will be decided. The number of volunteers for the Beijing Paralympic Games exceeds that of the Beijing Olympic Games, and all venue updates have been completed. Wang Wei, executive vice chairman and secretary-general of the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee, said: "The total number of valid registrations in the Paralympic Games staff system is 178,052, and all 28 venues (groups) have completed the data update.
