At first I went to watch this movie because of Li Zi’s beauty, so I didn’t know much about it before watching the movie.
First of all, this film is basically a biopic, based on a large number of real historical records. In 1871, the 17-year-old Rimbaud accepted the invitation of the famous poet Verlaine to go to Paris. When this young man walked into everyone's sight, first he saw a pair of slender legs, an old woolen coat wrapping his young and thin body, and finally his head held high, his clean and beautiful face, his eyes without fear or distracting thoughts, but with Intelligence and innate talent that few others can match. His clothes were casual and his behavior was casually absurd, which struck everyone's hearts.
If I were Verlaine and such a young man broke into my life, I would be uncontrollably fascinated by him and unable to extricate myself. I will not treat my young wife rudely, but when Rimbaud destructively tramples across the long table at the poet's party, like a king walking down the red carpet, I will look up with eyes full of love and doting. He, or simply stand on the table and join him in destroying the boring, lengthy and artificial party, tearing apart the masks of the lifeless poets;
The newly arrived Rimbaud is almost everyone's nightmare. He is bohemian and arrogant, and wherever he goes there are scenes of small man-made disasters, and others avoid him. Only Verlaine was obsessed with Rimbaud like an addict. The two quickly moved in together and lived wildly. He drank heavily, smoked marijuana, and "explored the entire process of sensual pleasure." They used the money from Verlaine's father-in-law's family to wander to England and Belgium together. During these two crazy years, Rimbaud and Verlaine chased each other, enjoying the joy and vitality brought by love and the world;
But they hurt each other at the same time. Rimbaud called Verlaine "a mean-looking person." Verlaine couldn't bear it. When he left by boat, he cried and begged the other party to come back at the dock, but it was too late.
In 1873, this crazy journey and love affair finally ended with the sound of Verlaine's gunshot directed at Rimbaud. Verlaine was arrested and imprisoned for two years. Rimbaud returned home alone and wrote "A Season in Hell". He gave up writing before the age of 20 and traveled around. Finally, he died of illness in Africa at the age of 37. Verlaine's eyes were full of sadness when he heard the news of his death.
Rimbaud is free, uninhibited and sharp. Verlaine praised him as a "man who controls the wind" and wanted to be as free and unrestrained as Rimbaud. But Verlaine was realistic and bound. He has a young and beautiful wife and wants a rich and comfortable life. He loved Rimbaud and cherished this passionate love, but he could not give up his desire and everything he had.
If Rimbaud was a "psychic" from the spiritual world, then Verlaine was a mortal who was lucky enough to meet this psychic and get a glimpse of that mysterious and completely different world.
This is a hopeless and sweet love story. Verlaine felt the unruly wind, but could not catch up with its footsteps; and at that time, Verlaine was almost the only one who discovered Rimbaud's eternal soul. "That's the sun and the sea, reflecting each other." But people only see the shadow of the sun in the sea. Who has seen the sun and the sea together?
"My eternal soul is watching your heart, even though the night is lonely and the day is burning."
