On April 26, 1895, the scene of Oscar Wilde’s first trial. During cross-examination, Gill (I think it may be the prosecutor) asked Wilde: "What does 'love that dares not express itself' mean?"
Wilde replied: "In this world, there is no love that dares to express itself." Self-revealed love is the strong feeling of the older for the younger, like that between David and Jonathan, on which Plato based his philosophy, as you see in Michelangelo and Shakespeare's Fourteenth This feeling is also found in poetry. It is that deep spiritual love which is not only perfect but also pure. It has been misunderstood in this century, and this misunderstanding is so serious that it is described as " Love that dares not express itself, for which I was brought. It is beautiful, it is sublime, it is the noblest form of emotion. There is nothing unnatural about it. There is a constant presence between the older and the younger, the older has the wisdom, while the younger has before his eyes the joy, the hope and the charm of life. The world does not understand the existence of this feeling, and sometimes it makes one laugh. People wear shackles for this.”
