Jiangsu province adopted multiple-choice questions in the listening test. The types of questions are the choice of pictures, dialogues and essays. According to the survey of students' usual training, students' problems mainly focus on the following aspects:
1. Students lack listening strategy training. More than 35% students think they lack listening skills, 15% students think they are not good at obtaining information through listening;
2. Students also have problems in the use of listening strategies: 65,438+05% students listen word for word, 65,438+00% students translate while listening, and only 65% students guess the main idea according to some words they hear;
3. Students have too little time for extracurricular autonomous listening training. Few students practice listening for more than 2 hours after class every week, and more than half of them lack enthusiasm for listening;
4. Students don't make full use of the existing listening equipment and resources;
5.30% students think that the lack of vocabulary makes their listening comprehension difficult.
(2) oral examination
The oral test is divided into two parts: reading short articles and oral composition. The problems mainly include the following aspects:
1, inaccurate pronunciation and intonation, unclear articulation. Some students can't read common words correctly or skip and miss reading.
2. There are many grammatical mistakes and improper words. The sentence structure expressed by students is chaotic and tense is not used properly. Words can't express their meaning.
3, the expression is not smooth, and Chinglish has obvious traces, which does not conform to English expression habits.
Second, the reasons for poor listening and speaking ability of students
Through the results of the above two surveys and tests, it can be seen that the overall listening and speaking level of students is not ideal. I think we can mainly analyze the reasons from five aspects.
(1) The amount of language input is not large, and the listening content cannot be effectively linked with the information output.
(2) Lack of necessary basic knowledge of pronunciation and intonation, ignoring the phenomenon of weak reading in continuous reading.
(3) Lack of vocabulary and unskilled use of sentence patterns and grammar.
(4) Not familiar with the cultural background of British and American people. Although there are no specific new words in the materials they listen to, the students can't understand the content because they can't turn around for a while.
(5) The psychological quality is unstable, and I often feel passive and uncertain, so I am too nervous, so I can't understand what I could have understood. When you don't understand, you start to get impatient, which leads to a vicious circle.
Third, effective ways to improve students' listening and speaking ability
Listening and speaking is an important means for people to communicate with the outside world. 45% of the information in life is obtained by listening, and 30% of the information is transmitted by speaking. Improving students' English listening and speaking ability is helpful to improve students' English application ability in an all-round way. So "listening and speaking" is the first two of the four basic skills. Putting listening and speaking ability in an important position and combining listening and speaking with man-machine dialogue examination is an important embodiment of the transition from exam-oriented education to quality education in middle school English.
There are many ways to train listening.
At present, middle school students still have great difficulties in listening comprehension, which is caused by many factors, such as new words, complex sentence structure, familiarity with the content, speech speed, changes in pronunciation and intonation, etc. How to improve students' listening comprehension, I have the following experiences combined with teaching in recent years:
1, imitate the recording, listen more and practice more.
Listening to tapes is one of the most important methods in the primary stage of listening and speaking practice. There are many ways to listen to the recording, such as distinguishing words, listening to some coherent phrases, listening to the discrimination between right and wrong sentences, listening to short passages, dialogues and so on. To enable students to master English pronunciation and intonation. Then let the students imitate. Bloomfield, a famous American linguist, famously said, "Nothing is more important than starting with imitation." In English listening and speaking practice, it is very important for students to repeat and imitate as much as possible on the basis of understanding.
2. The method is correct and the goal is clear.
When practicing listening, give out listening test papers. Before listening, educate students to be familiar with listening options, look quickly, think carefully, and be aware of them. In the process of listening, we should be good at grasping key sounds, keywords, key phrases and key sentences. Grasp the overall situation, look at the overall situation and improve efficiency. Ask the students to quickly shift their attention to the next question after finishing the last question, so as not to lose sight of one thing and lose sight of another.
3. Pay close attention to the foundation and strengthen training.
Listening more is indeed a positive means to improve listening, but the listening level does not depend entirely on the number of times of listening, nor on the length and difficulty of listening content. It is a comprehensive embodiment of one's English knowledge, and the foundation of all English knowledge is vocabulary. Vocabulary plays a vital role in English learning. It is the basis of all training, and listening is no exception. Every conversation, paragraph and discourse is composed of sentences, and the basic unit of a sentence is a word or phrase. In the process of listening, we can imitate the pronunciation we hear, but if we don't master a certain vocabulary, we can't associate the word with the symbol it represents, and we can't know what the symbol represents. Therefore, in the usual teaching, we should pay attention to students' reading skills, such as weak reading, continuous reading, incomplete blasting, word stress, sentence intonation and so on. The teaching attitude should be strict and meticulous, and the feedback should be timely, accurate and appropriate.
4, layered training, pay attention to guidance.
Teachers should carry out targeted and hierarchical training according to the actual level of students. According to the students' level, find the right content, choose the right method and put forward the right requirements. Teachers should have a long-term plan and a short-term plan in mind. Training should pay attention to guidance, vary from person to person, teach students in accordance with their aptitude, be targeted, be neither repetitive nor sloppy, and not stick to the form, so as to truly achieve correct content, clear objectives, appropriate requirements and proper methods.
5. Build confidence and cultivate interest.
Many students are often afraid of listening because of their fast speech, slow response and long sentences when doing listening training questions. If you have such a hearing problem: W: What can I do for you? M: Yes, I want to try on a jacket like that boy's. This answer is very long and contains an attributive clause to modify the jacket. When students listen to this sentence, as long as they grab the trunk and try on the jacket, it will not affect their choice of the correct answer. When teachers explain topics, they should give students psychological counseling in time, find opportunities to praise students in time, increase their confidence and cultivate their interest in learning.
(B) to create an atmosphere to cultivate spoken English
Among the four skills of learning English, students' oral English is generally the weakest, mainly because they speak too little and lack oral context. Therefore, how to encourage students to speak more, especially how to speak more English in class, is a subject for English teachers. In the usual English teaching process, I try to create an English-speaking language environment and encourage students to speak English in various ways.
1, language training and thinking training permeate alternately.
Different language expressions are often determined by different ways of thinking, so students must cultivate the habit of thinking in English. The combination of language training and thinking training must be carried out from the beginning of oral training, and what you think is what you say. Junior high school students' understanding of learning is no longer a simple repetition. They have been able to think logically, need challenging training and have a strong desire to express themselves. Classroom teaching is the main battlefield to improve students' English level. To create the best language environment, teachers should make full use of classroom time, provide students with a lot of opportunities for listening and speaking practice, and let students gradually improve their language use ability. For this reason, students should be the main body in class, and what students can say should be adhered to, so that students can say what teachers can't arrange. Every class begins with a duty report. In addition to stating the day of the week, date, weather, attendance and course arrangement, students can also speak in combination with their own situation, course content and what happened in the class. Next is the quick response of brainstorming. After the introduction of the new curriculum, students will be divided into groups for dialogue work (group work) and group performance (role-playing). In practice, the key and difficult points of language have been melted.
Improving students' English listening and speaking ability is not a day's work. It is not enough to rely solely on classroom practice. When conditions permit, carry out extracurricular activities as much as possible to give students more practical opportunities. For example, the school has set up an "English Corner", the English teaching film The Sound of Music has been shown on TV, and the children's English short play "Travel All over America" of CCTV 10 Hope English Children's Channel. Teenagers will naturally imitate interesting plots in the process of watching. Middle school students' English listening and speaking ability can be improved imperceptibly.
2. Accurate expression training and fuzzy expression training complement each other.
At the beginning, students' knowledge of vocabulary and grammar is not solid, and accurate expression needs intensive training. We should give students correct examples, correct mistakes in time, and lay a good foundation for further study. However, the ultimate goal of training is to enable students to talk in English, so fuzzy expression training must also be combined with communicative activities. Classroom teaching can take the following forms to create an atmosphere for students: (1) In class, students' seats can be arranged in groups or rings, so that they can sit face to face to increase the cordial atmosphere. (2) When speaking English, let students sit in their seats instead of standing, so that they feel more natural. (3) According to different topics, try to divide students into two groups or groups, so that they can prepare their opinions in advance, and then the representatives in the group will state their opinions.
In the actual communication activities, the transmission of information is the most concerned and focused place for both parties. On many specific occasions, incomplete sentences and sentences with grammatical and logical errors often appear, but they do not affect the smooth progress of communication activities. If students are required to say everything word for word, or constantly interrupt their speeches to correct their mistakes, only accurate expressions are allowed, and vague mistakes are not allowed, students will not be able to speak, and they will even be afraid to speak. Of course, some obvious mistakes should be corrected together after the students finish speaking, and there is no need to correct some slips of the tongue or mistakes that the students themselves have realized.
3. Imitation theory and creation theory are combined with each other.
Say imitation first. Learning English is also through a lot of mechanical imitation training, mastering the basic pronunciation and oral routines, consolidating the basic knowledge of English and laying a solid foundation for oral activities. However, if we only emphasize imitative oral English and ignore creative oral English, it will be difficult to cultivate real oral English ability. In teaching, in addition to asking students to recite some sentence patterns or dialogues and carry out imitation training, students must also be guided to speak freely according to different situations and topics. For example, after 9AUnit 2 Main task students learn to talk about the effect of women's clothes and colors in pictures, I will ask students to talk about the clothes of the English teacher (me) or one of their good friends and their opinions. Learning now and using it now greatly stimulates students' interest in actively participating in oral English, thus cultivating students' creative oral English ability.
4. Ready and unprepared means synchronous promotion.
In the primary stage of oral English, it is impossible to speak without preparation, and generally only imitative oral English can be trained. As mentioned above, each class begins with the duty report. The students all cherished the opportunity of this report and made careful preparations, even the speech was carefully prepared. The prepared theory is the basis of the unprepared theory. Real communication activities can't be prepared in advance, and students' impromptu expression ability needs to be improved on the basis of countless prepared speeches.
In short, with the overall transition from exam-oriented education to quality education, it is imperative to strengthen the cultivation of middle school students' practical communicative competence. Teachers should not only persistently carry out listening and speaking training, but also constantly improve their language expression ability. Only by studying, exploring, summarizing and studying effective listening and speaking modes in teaching can our English teaching and listening and speaking effect be improved and students' listening and speaking ability be improved!
