Zhaojin, located in the northwest of Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province, has been a fortress since ancient times. According to legend, Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty visited here and said that "the sun shines on brocade clothes, and everything looks like gold." Zhaojin's reputation spread throughout the world. Zhaojin Danxia landform is rare and unique. Fan Kuan, a landscape painter from the Song Dynasty (from Yaozhou, Shaanxi Province), was deeply familiar with the essence of Zhaojin Mountains. He used this as a prototype to create the "Travel to Streams and Mountains", which is a national treasure handed down from generation to generation. In 1933, the older generation of revolutionaries established the Shaanxi-Gansu Border Revolutionary Base, the first mountainous revolutionary base in the northwest, here. Zhaojin became the cradle of the northwest revolution and wrote a glorious chapter in the history of the Chinese revolution. Currently, Zhaojin is one of the top 100 classic red tourism scenic spots in the country, a national patriotism education base, a national defense education base, a national characteristic landscape tourist town and a national Danxia Geopark. In 2014, Zhaojin-Xiangshan Scenic Area was promoted to a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
