Zi Zhi Tong Jian

I have been busy for a whole month. Taking advantage of the gap between work at the end of the month, I can finally calm down and type some words.

The original plan that I set up on my website to update every day for a year has failed. On the day of the break, the situation was the same as that of most Jian friends. I went home tired and fell asleep. When I woke up, I received a message about the failure of the daily update challenge. All the pursuit of dreams in the world is actually a multiple-choice question. When doing the question, we must choose to give up something in order to get what you want through hard work. And sometimes the things you give up may be too important for you to bear.

Therefore, if you don’t pretend to be bad and don’t complain, let him go if the daily update fails. As for the passion for writing, it’s better to be with him.

Today I will continue to read "Zizhi Tongjian", and then talk about the Changping War. Between the Battle of Changping and the Defense of Handan, various events during the Battle of Changping were mixed. The Tongjianzhong uses Wei's refusal to aid and not participate in the war as a representative to illustrate the failure of Zhao's diplomacy and the attitude of various princes towards the competition for the top spot between the two major powers in the world.

Among them, when the Wei government decided not to aid Zhao and waited on the sidelines to seize the opportunity, a scholar criticized the Wei government's wrong decision. This scholar was Zishun. Tongjian said that Zishun was the sixth grandson of Confucius, that is, Kong Bin. Several quotations from Three Things About Kong Bin are quite wonderful.

The first thing was when he objected to the remarks of the officials that Qin Shengzhao did not have much influence on Wei, and might be beneficial to Wei, he said: "Sparrows live in a house, and the mother and the child feed each other.呴呴(xu) Yan Xiang is happy, thinking that he is in peace. When the fire breaks out in the stove, the building will be burned, and the sparrow's face will not change. I don't know that the disaster is about to happen to me, but I can't help others. It’s the same as a sparrow!”

I find this passage quite interesting. First, during the uprising of Chen Sheng and Wu Guang in later generations, it was said, "The sparrow knows the ambition of the swan." In ancient times, stupid people were often compared to sparrows. Who did the sparrow provoke? Second, this phrase has the same meaning as "lips are dead and teeth are cold". It is well known that it is a bit annoying to listen to. This phrase can be used in the future when describing how to be alert in the face of unexpected situations and reminding the consequences of entangled interests of many parties. Third, any interesting or philosophical words often rely on appropriate and targeted metaphors to reach people's hearts.

The second thing is that Zi Shun was hired as the Prime Minister by the King of Wei. Zi Shun dismissed many favored officials and replaced them with meritorious officials. He also reformed the performance management system and changed the salary from those who had no appointment to those who had merit. . Afterwards, everyone understood that this offended vested interest groups, and rumors spread, saying bad things about Zishun. At this time, Zishun said: "The people have not been able to worry about it for a long time!" and gave an example: "A good politician in ancient times could not be without slander at the beginning. Zichan Zhengzheng, three years later, the slander stopped; I am the prime minister of the emperor Lu, the slander will stop after three months. Now that I am in charge of reform, although I am not as good as the virtuous, do I know how to slander?”

The meaning of this passage is that when it comes to reform, let the bullets fly for a while. However, the meaning of the sentence "The people's insecurities and worries have lasted for a long time" has brought me deep confusion. Since the version I saw did not break sentences, and the ancient text actually had no punctuation marks, the punctuation marks used were all added by later generations. Fundamental ambiguities will arise due to differences in sentence segmentation. Combined with the background of the incident in which this sentence appeared, it can be understood that the people can only see the present and cannot see the future. However, the essence of Confucianism is to educate the people. This kind of translation is indeed a disdainful attitude towards the people.

There is also a famous saying of Confucianism, that is, "the people can follow it, but they cannot know it." This sentence was posted in a subway station in Hangzhou or some other city some time ago, causing a lot of public opinion, because if this sentence is cut off in this way, it is really inconsistent with Confucian values. Therefore, this sentence has caused a lot of discussion in the academic world on how to segment the sentence, such as "The people can make it, let it be done by it, but it can't, let it know", "The people can make it, let it be done by it, it can't be made, know it", "The people can Make it impossible to avoid it and know it." Different sentence fragments bring different meanings. But the final result is that currently, everyone is trying to move closer to the Confucian values ??of educating the people and benevolence.

In Tongjian, before Shang Yang's reform, when Wei Yang was debating with others in the Qin State Administration Department, he also said: "The people cannot start with worries, but can succeed with success." This sentence indeed comes from the Legalist view of the people.

Zishun said, "The people cannot worry about the beginning," and Shang Yang said: "The people cannot worry about the beginning, but they can succeed." The explicit meaning of these two sentences is similar, including the translation by Mr. Bo Yang. They are placed before and after the story of Tongjian and the Warring States Period. They were spoken by people who reformed Confucianism and Legalism, and Mr. Sima is an authentic representative of Confucianism. Putting these conditions together, plus the fact that this is an imperial book dedicated to the emperor, what exactly does he want to explain?

The third thing is that Zishun was not happy with his political duties. The king of Wei did not use his plan and dismissed him in anger. Someone interviewed him and asked him where he would use his talents in the future. Zi Shun said: "The kingdom of Shandong will be united with Qin. Qin is unjust and will not be invaded by righteous people." Zishun felt that no country had hope, and the one that had hope was Qin. However, Qin was doing injustice and did not want to go, so he decided to go home and farm. Unexpectedly, a few days after returning home, he was interviewed again. He said: "Today, the country of Shandong is in dire straits. The three Jins ceded territory in order to seek peace. They turned around and invaded Qin. Yan, Qi, and Chu have surrendered. From this perspective, "In less than twenty years, the whole world will be Qinhu!"

It goes without saying how clearly Zishun sees the general trend. After all, we all have a God's perspective! . Just say that Wen Zhongzishun predicted that Qin would unify China within twenty years, which was simply a divine prophecy. This period was probably 25x or 24x BC, and the time when Qin unified the six kingdoms was 221 BC.

I have not found the source of this sentence. It may only appear in Tongjian, the Confucian myth of making stars!
