From: Zhou Jichang's Book of Changes
Moral:
A gentleman should run like a celestial body; If you are a gentleman, measurement should be like the earth, and nothing can't be loaded.
Extended data:
The last sentence, "Heaven is healthy, and gentlemen are constantly striving for self-improvement", is more widely circulated. But for two thousand years, many people know and few people can understand. However, there are still different explanations in academic circles, and there seems to be no recognized correct explanation. There are fewer people who know the next sentence than the previous one.
Tsinghua University's school motto is: "Strive for self-improvement, be virtuous and carry things." This is a famous saying.
The influence of the work:
In the pre-Qin period, a hundred schools of thought contended, and all schools were more or less influenced by Zhouyi. Later, in every important period of the development of ancient philosophy, I ching thought played an axis role.
In the Tang Dynasty, the Book of Changes was not only valued by scholars, but also favored by the ruling class, such as Emperor Taizong. Confucius' descendant Kong was ordered to learn from others to edit the Book of Changes, which promoted the development of philosophical research centered on the study of the Book of Changes. Therefore, many scholars have annotated the Book of Changes since then.
The profound influence of the Book of Changes on China's traditional philosophy and its position and role in China's traditional philosophy are beyond the reach of any other classic works, which may be the fundamental reason why it is listed as the first in the group of classics.
