Diamond Sutra: "Subhuti! What do you mean? Is there any way for the Tathagata to obtain Anuttarasamyaksambodhi when he comes to Randeng Buddha?" No, World Honored One, you are like me. To explain the meaning of what the Buddha said, there is no way for the Buddha to obtain Anuttarasamyaksambodhi. 'The Buddha said: 'So, Subhuti! There is no way for the Tathagata to obtain Anuttarasamyaksambodhi. "Three Bodhisattvas."
The meaning of the Mahayana Prajna Sutra is profound and cannot be understood by those who have not yet learned it. I try to answer it reluctantly based on what I have learned through practice. If there are any mistakes, I hope to be corrected by a good teacher.
"Anuttara Samyak Sambodhi" is the supreme Bodhi, which is different from the two vehicles of Bodhi. This supreme Bodhi is the meaning of ultimate Buddhahood. When the Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, he achieved this supreme Bodhi. This is the same as the "clear mind and seeing one's nature" in Zen Buddhism. However, the Buddha is the last Bodhisattva to manifest enlightenment, and the Patriarch's enlightenment may be the first enlightenment since beginningless time, or it may be the enlightenment many times in previous lives. , this time the Bodhisattva returns; however, all the seeds of pollution have not been eliminated yet, so it is not the final body of the Bodhisattva, and it still needs to "cultivate after enlightenment". Although there is this difference between the two, their enlightenment is the same (both of them have the true intention of immortality); therefore, the enlightenment of the Patriarch can also be called "Anuttara Samyak Sam Bodhi".
The above briefly talked about "Supreme Bodhi"; then, why is it said that "there is no real way" to achieve this supreme Bodhi?
The word "real" is not the same as falsehood, nor is it the same as the thinking drama of unenlightened ordinary people; it is based on the "reality of all dharmas" and speaking truthfully after enlightenment. Therefore, those who hear it should have "real faith": "There is no method that can achieve supreme Bodhi." In this way, have the Buddha and the Patriarch truly achieved Supreme Bodhi? The answer is yes! Then there is a contradiction!
In fact, the problem is very simple: the one who "gets" is "unprecedented"! This sincerity originally comes from itself and is not something that has never existed before or exists now, so it cannot be called "acquired". In this sense: the true and incorruptible Dharma has the nature of "no gain", and the Supreme Bodhi is exactly this kind of "truly incorruptible Dharma". As for any method that can be "gained", if there is a gain, there must be a loss. Since "there is nothing before and now", it must "become extinct later". All dharmas in the world are like this, all arising and passing away. Only this supreme Bodhi "neither arises nor dies", "originally comes naturally" and is "sufficient for everyone". Therefore it cannot be said to be "obtained".
Secondly, "mind, Buddha, and sentient beings are all indistinguishable." The true mind is also called "Bodhi", also called "the reality of all dharmas", and also called "Tathagata". ! Therefore it cannot be said to be "obtained".
This sentence is translated into vernacular:
Really speaking, there is no way to obtain "Supreme Bodhi", the "real and immortal" Dharma; because this Dharma affects all sentient beings It is self-sufficient and cannot be obtained from outside; because this Dharma is originally the Tathagata.
