Plot summary

In the Pacific battlefield in 1942, the protagonist, military doctor Desmond Dawes, was unwilling to shoot anyone on the front line, so he became a military doctor. He was ostracized by other soldiers because of his peaceful ideals. Nonetheless, Desmond Doss became a legend when he saved 75 soldiers during the Battle of Okinawa. During an all-night battle, medic Desmond Doss was wounded by a grenade and was shot by a sniper while rescuing the wounded.
