“You can’t find the New World by following the old maps” - this famous saying is said to be a heroic statement made by Columbus after he traveled around the world.
If you want to develop, you must innovate and find a new way. If we keep following the old map, wearing new shoes and walking the same old road, without changing the medicine, we will never be able to change or grow.
This sentence also reminds me of the book "Out of the Plot" by Li Xue. Our lives are repeated again and again according to the "plot" left to us by our parents in childhood.
For example, when I was a child, the only person I could trust and rely on was my mother. Everything our mother did and said to us was deeply imprinted in our minds and internalized into our subconscious.
In my memory, my mother was often very busy and tired. She had to work in the fields, clean up the house, and take care of my brother and me.
The only thing I can do is to work as much as possible so that she can have a moment of rest. Of course, my mother’s occasional words, “I’m so proud of my daughter,” are also motivation for me to work.
However, due to her family of origin, my mother is anxious, impatient, and emotionally unstable. As a result, I am very afraid of authority at work and in life. As long as there is authority present, I will be nervous and flustered no matter what I do, and I am afraid that the authority will be dissatisfied and criticized. All I can think about is how to do this thing so that the authority will not be angry, and I have no energy to think about how to get things done.
After realizing this, I have been trying to change my way of doing things. I hope I won’t be trapped in the plot of my childhood and continue walking along the old map.
This summer, I finally tried to use the psychological knowledge I learned to open up and have an in-depth communication. Although it cannot be changed immediately, it is still the first step taken. I believe I can find my new world as soon as possible!
